On The Art of Songwriting - I’m not a sound expert, but seems to me like there has been a lot specialization happening in this space since my brother studied it 25 years ago. Whether that’s the impact technology has had or the need to hone skills & master craft within a specific element, this is a great example of how to help young people decide what they want to be what they grow up. This mapping exercise is relevant for me with a 19 and 17 year old in the house. How can you help young people navigate their career options? I believe speaking to those working in the area of interest is always better than any highschool counsellor. #Gotothesource, #askthepros #careersinaudioengineering, #lifeplans, #careerpath, #motivation, #careersinmusic, #planningyourcareer, #soubdengineering, #typesofjobsinsoundengineering

Pay in the music industry hasn't changed for years. Not because people don't value music, but due to outdated business practices that prioritise profits over talent. Raise your hand if you agree. It's high time we shake things up. We need to rethink the way entertainers are compensated. Because let's face it, without them there would be no music industry. Once we start valuing talent appropriately, only then can we expect a rise in quality and perhaps, more importantly, sustained careers for passionate artists out there. So what say you, music professionals? Are we ready to change the game? Let's start the conversation!

Artist Research Intern | Interested in Live Music And Artist Development | 5 Seconds of Summer Enthusiast
It's nearly impossible to be within the music industry and not have a few additional roles up your sleeves. That where we get told we are each entrepreneurs with a portfolio career! In which our portfolio will look so vastly different from what people expect (non-music industry professionals), however, I like the idea that it shows how versatile we are. On the other hand, it shows how much there is a need for teamwork and collaboration to make things move and progress within the music industry, regardless of where you are based. For me my portfolio looks like: 🌟 Social Media Manager who is also an artist developer 🌟 Digital Marketer who is a content creator 🌟 Music journalist who is also a social media consultant 🌟 Content Creator who is also becoming a press agent 🌟 Audience Developer who is also looking up grants and funding opportunities (i.e. being a manager, or at least an assistant for an Aussie artist) All of which I hope allows me to standout and become more prominent, successful, happy, and known for what I can do but also the experiences I give to others. The goal is to have my name being mentioned in many rooms (for good reasons) to aid in my development and joy in working in this brilliant industry. It's all about being groovy, staying groovy, and ensuring everyone grooves together! #musicindustry #portfoliocareer #entrepreneurship #musicbusiness
🦸♂️ I've never met anyone in the music industry who only does one thing. Artist managers are also booking agents. Booking agents are also press agents. Press agents are also social media managers. Social media managers are also content creators. Content creators are also sound engineers. Sound engineers are also producers. Producers are also artists themselves. Artists are also concert promoters. Concert promoters are also program curators. ...and the list goes on and on. 📼 You can mix and match the above as you want, but I'm pretty sure everyone I know who works in the music industry has had to learn various demanding skill sets and apply them to different roles in their professional and personal lives.

There is a lot of confusion about the music industry, the music community, artist management, and what makes a “good” artist manager. Here are some clarifications: 💡The music industry is made up of organizations and individuals who earn money Ex. Warner, Sony, UMG, Tunecore, Songtrust 💡The music community is made up of a group of people with strong ties around music Ex. HRDRV, Discord, Patreon 💡Artist management is the management of performing artists, musicians, and producers These individuals have a serious plan to create a sustainable career in music Good artist managers know the difference between the music industry and the music community And through artist management, Create sustainable artist careers by managing smarter. Hope this helps. #musicindustry #artistmanagers #artistmanagement
