Let’s talk #PrideMonth (or rainbow logo month, as I like to refer to it) 🏳️🌈 While I think it’s ‘nice’ that so many brands and businesses fly the rainbow flag during June, 99% of the time it just comes off as tokenistic. Changing the colour of your logo once a year along with one social media post saying something vaguely about ‘supporting’ or ‘celebrating’ LGBTQ staff is a bit of tick box exercise, isn’t it? Sexual orientation is a protected characteristic, so you kind of have to support your LGBTQ staff. If businesses REALLY care about Pride and REALLY care about their LGBTQ staff, I don’t care about a rainbow-hued logo, I care about: 🏳️🌈 Parental and Adoption Leave Policies that make starting a family as a non-heteronormative couple accessible, affordable and as stress-free as possible. 🏳️🌈 Intentional recruitment practices which include actively advertising roles in queer spaces, creating diverse hiring panels and recognising that unconscious bias and outright homophobia or transphobia may have contributed to stunted career progression in some cases. 🏳️🌈 Equitable benefits that address the specific needs of queer people, such as LGBTQ specific employee assistance programmes. 🏳️🌈 Actively supporting LGBTQ causes all year around through corporate partnerships with charities and corporate-social responsibility initiatives. 🏳️🌈 Investing in consistent and continuous employee training to break down stigma, misconceptions, barriers and foster a more inclusive and understand culture where living authentically isn’t just a buzzword. 🏳️🌈 Understanding the difference between equality and equity, and that LGBTQ people may have been held back in their career through no fault of their own and may benefit from more fast-tracked or focussed training and developing opportunities. 🏳️🌈 A concerted effort to understand the particular needs and values and buying behaviours of your LGBTQ customers, including specific market research. 🏳️🌈 Inclusive marketing featuring appropriate, non-tokenistic LGBTQ depictions in imagery and messaging, actively seeking out and working with queer influencers, abasadors, freelancers and partnering with queer-owned businesses ALL YEAR. START with these things and maybe then we can talk about Pride-themed logos and rainbow cookies in the canteen. Otherwise, in the immortal words of Julia Roberts’ Erin Brockervich . . .

We help values-driven businesses and organizations develop marketing and communications strategies that attract the right clients or donors so they can sleep well tonight and grow tomorrow.
We’ve had a couple of exciting developments at Fire & Bliss Creative over the past couple of weeks. We received our certifications as a woman-owned business from the City & County of Denver and we joined Good Business Colorado–an organization of values-driven employers and entrepreneurs in the state of Colorado working together for equitable communities, a sustainable environment, and a prosperous economy. Why does that matter to you? Because it can lead you to think about what makes you different as a business or non-profit. Success in attracting the right clients, customers, and donors is driven partially by being able to talk about your “point of differentiation.” That just means the thing that makes you different from the other companies and organizations that do what you do. For us, it is largely around values–we are committed to racial justice, LGBTQ liberation, and the arts. We are woman-owned. We are LGBTQ owned. And, the way we do business is a point of differentiation–our strategies are scaleable–so if you've got a modest budget or a major budget, we develop the strategies to help you grow. So, take five minutes and write down the three things that make your business or organization different–and if you want, share them in the comments below. Why would someone want to work with you or support you over other groups that do very similar things? If you begin to work those points into your marketing, proposals and pitches, you’ll see more of the right folks lining up to work with and support you. – Fire & Bliss Creative helps values-driven businesses and organizations develop scaleable marketing strategies that attract the right customers, clients, and donors so you can sleep well tonight and grow tomorrow. If you are interested in seeing if we’d be a good fit for helping solve your marketing challenges, send me a message and we can set up a time to talk. #womanowned #lgbtq #valuesdriven

Great share from the lovely folks at myGwork - LGBTQ Business Community - headline is that c.30% of Gen Z (12 -27 year olds) are identifying as LGBTQ and that has consequences for employers fighting for early careers talent. Key section that jumped out at me was: “Companies prioritizing diversity and inclusion initiatives are also likely to see improved retention rates and a competitive edge. A recent mGwork study showed eight out of 10 Gen Z-ers would avoid applying for a company that had withdrawn its support for the LGBTQ community, and seeing visible LGBTQ role models in senior ranks would influence 80 percent of Gen Z-ers to accept a job from an employer.” Inclusion and visibility matters. And it pays back.
🗣 ''As more Gen Z-ers identify as LGBTQ , there could be plenty of widespread changes in the workplace and society overall, Adrien Gaubert and Pierre Gaubert, co-founders of the LGBTQ business community myGwork, told Newsweek.'' 🌈 Gen Z has consistently defied social norms, often forging their own path. But one aspect that continues to intrigue social scientists is their unique approach to LGBTQ identification. 🗞 Thank you, Newsweek, for featuring Adrien, Pierre, and myGwork. ⤵ Read the complete Newsweek article about why more Gen Z individuals are identifying as LGBTQ below: #GenZ #LGBTQ #News #LGBTQWorkplace

For National Coming Out Day, we wanted to share a piece which explores the socially-constructed 'closet' that many members of the LGBTQ community find themselves being put in, and how this closet can sometimes feel like it has a revolving door. Being able to bring your entire self to work without fear of judgement is an imperative in the workplace, and in this piece we discuss how employers can be consistent with their efforts of creating a culture that leads with acceptance, inclusion, and belonging. #culture #inclusion #comingoutday https://lnkd.in/dxskEi-4

🌈 LGBTQIA History Month at Money Wellness🌈 February is LGBTQIA History Month, and at Money Wellness, we're proud to celebrate the rich history and contributions of the LGBTQIA community. This year's theme is #UnderTheScope, exploring past and current medical care for the LGBTQIA community. Celebrate and remember the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans individuals in the fields of medicine and healthcare. We reached out to some of our LGBTQIA Community Group members to share insights around LGBTQIA topics, and here's what they had to say: Dean White: LGBTQIA History is about never forgetting those who paved the way for us to live authentically. 🌟What does being part of or an ally mean? "It means a lot - shared experiences, understanding, and growth." 🌟What have you learned in the last year? "The importance of pronouns for people to feel respected." 🌟Importance of diversity in the workplace? "It's crucial for representation and growth at all levels." Paul Pendleton: It gives a sense of community and an opportunity for people who don’t have support to explore their identity. 🌟 Being part of or an ally means? "Shaping the community and passing on experiences." 🌟 What have you learned in the last year? "A lot about gender identity and the trans struggle." 🌟 Importance of diversity in the workplace? "Reflecting consumers and bringing about change." Mercedes Dawson: It's essential to look back, learn, and understand how far we've come in LGBTQIA rights. 🌟 Being part of or an ally means? "Understanding diverse stories and personal responsibility." 🌟 What have you learned in the last year? "More about the struggles of trans, non-binary, and intersex individuals." 🌟 Importance of diversity in the workplace? "A healthier and thriving work environment." Let's continue celebrating diversity and fostering an inclusive environment! 💙🏳️🌈 #LGBTQIA #LGBTQIAHistoryMonth #MoneyWellness #DiversityandInclusion

Happy Pride Month! 🌈 As we celebrate and honor the LGBTQ community, it's important for companies to demonstrate their support and dedication to inclusivity—this month and every month. Here are some impactful ways companies can celebrate and uplift their LGBTQ employees year-round: 🌈 Host Educational Workshops and Webinars: Provide learning opportunities about LGBTQ history, rights, and issues. Invite guest speakers or partner with LGBTQ organizations to share their insights. 🌈 Create Inclusive Policies: Review and update company policies to ensure they are inclusive and supportive of LGBTQ employees. This includes non-discrimination policies, benefits for same-sex partners, and gender-neutral bathrooms. 🌈 Support Employee Resource Groups (ERGs): Encourage and support the formation of LGBTQ ERGs. These groups provide a safe space for employees to connect, share experiences, and advocate for change within the company. 🌈 Celebrate with Pride Events: Organize or participate in Pride Month events such as virtual parades, panel discussions, and social gatherings. Show your support by decorating the office (physical or virtual) with Pride flags and colors. 🌈 Offer Mental Health Support: Provide access to mental health resources and support specifically for LGBTQ employees. Consider offering workshops on mental well-being and creating an inclusive environment. 🌈 Spotlight LGBTQ Voices: Use company platforms to amplify the voices and stories of LGBTQ employees. Share their experiences, achievements, and contributions to the company. 🌈 Support LGBTQ Charities: Donate or fundraise for LGBTQ charities and organizations. Show your commitment to supporting the broader community. 🌈 Promote Allyship: Encourage all employees to be allies by providing training on how to support LGBTQ colleagues. Foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and active allyship. 🌈 Track and Improve Diversity Metrics: Regularly assess and report on diversity and inclusion metrics within your organization. Use this data to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement. #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #Inclusion #Diversity #WorkplaceEquality

🌈 With June upon us tomorrow, it's time to celebrate Pride Month! Many companies are looking for ways to honour Pride authentically and meaningfully, even on a tight budget. Here are some tips to help you make a real impact: 🔍 Be Authentic: Ensure your Pride activities reflect your company’s true values. Assess how equity and inclusion are currently represented in your workplace. Use Pride Month to make lasting changes. Superficial gestures won't cut it—Pride is about integrity, purpose, and genuine commitment. 🗣️ Listen to Your LGBTQ Employees: Engage directly with your LGBTQ team members to understand their needs and wants. Their insights are crucial for planning celebrations that truly matter to them. Create a brave space for open conversations and let their voices lead the way. 💡 Support Your LGBTQ Team Members: Allocate your budget towards Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) or similar initiatives. Trust these groups to know what’s best—they have the passion and expertise to create meaningful programs and events. Provide them with the resources they need to shine. 🌟 Champion LGBTQ Businesses: Make a point to support LGBTQ businesses. Hire LGBTQ professionals, order from LGBTQ owned restaurants, and buy products and services from LGBTQ entrepreneurs. Your financial support can make a big difference and show your commitment to the community.
