Thank you Aramark, Social Current, and Mass Audubon Drumlin Farm for another amazing and impactful volunteer event! Aramark volunteers helped plant 650 native seedlings and 8 shrubs, cut back invasive plants, remove debris and help create a native wildflower demonstration bed. This bed will not only attract pollinators and restore natural habitat, but will also help eliminate grass which helps save financial and environmental resources. After a day of hard work, volunteers had the opportunity to go into the sanctuary and visit the adorable baby goats - a perfect conclusion to their volunteering session! Special shoutout to Mary Fondas, PMP for bringing us together to volunteer 🎉 #AramarkBuildingCommunity #BuildMoreImpact

We've been out volunteering as part of the Benefact Group Big Give Back week!😁 Mandy & Sonya have visited the beautiful Heal Somerset, and were treated to a tour of the Heal rewilding site, from CEO Jan Stannard; totally immersed in nature from insects, to birds, to plants and trees and other animals🌱 Our team also took part in worm surveys, which provided a big insight in to the quality of the soil and the habitats of the different kinds of worms. Thank you to Heal Rewilding for welcoming us on site, our team has described their experience as 'truly magical'💜 #BigGiveBack2024

Community Giving Week is all about giving back to Camp and School—but we would be remiss not to extend that spirit of giving back to the place we call home! To celebrate our Adirondack community, we wanted to recognize one of our great nonprofit partners here in the region, AdkAction. Here are some pollinator facts they shared with us recently: 🦋 Three-fourths of the world’s flowering plants and about 35 percent of the world’s food crops depend on animal pollinators to reproduce. That’s one out of every three bites of food you eat! 🐝 Threats including habitat loss and fragmentation, pesticide use, climate change, and disease are causing a decline in global and local pollinator populations. 🐞 Pollinators that can’t find the right quantity or quality of food (nectar and pollen from blooming plants within flight range) don’t survive. Right now, there simply aren’t enough pollinator friendly plantings to support pollinators. Learn more about AdkAction’s work in this recent conversation between our Garden Manager Kim Smart and Hannah Grall, AdkAction Project Coordinator - visit https://lnkd.in/ej96TWVK to watch the full interview. And if you haven’t made your gift yet, donate today at https://lnkd.in/e5-rHD2S!

Today is World Environment Day, and the 2024 theme is restoring land, halting desertification and building drought resilience. Using the UNEP's practical guide, we've pulled together three activities that you can use to get your students involved, beyond #WorldEnvironmentDay 🌱 Find or create a community garden, that your students can use to learn about where their food comes from. Optional extra: get your school canteen or cafe involved using food from the garden and promoting it with students! 🌱 Why not take your younger students on a tree planting day with a charity near you? Teach them about which trees are local to your school, and how healthy soil helps the environment. 🌱 Run a session on rivers and waterways and examine maps to see how water near you has changed over time. Cover water-based animal habitats, and teach your students how to look after them. Any more tips? Drop them in the comments! And why not take a look at the UNEP's practical guide for more information 👉 https://ow.ly/8ral50S6ZW0

And what a fantastic day it was 💙 Natural Flood Management (NFM) utilises landscape and natural processes to reduce flood risk. It involves measures like planting trees, restoring rivers to their natural courses, and creating wetlands to absorb and store excess water, thereby mitigating flood impacts while enhancing biodiversity - a holistic approach to climate resilience! Flood risk reduction like this project at Gissing is critically important. It protects communities from the devastating impacts of flooding, enhances public safety, and supports sustainable development.
For National Volunteers’ Week we’re celebrating some of our amazing volunteers! Just like this team who spent the day at Gissing in Norfolk helping to reduce flood risk through a Natural Flood Management project with Norfolk Rivers Trust. They got stuck in by installing woody debris and carrying out essential maintenance tasks. The project is a collaboration between NORFOLK RIVERS TRUST, River Waveney Trust, our partner WWF-UK and us. It will go a long way to protect communities from the increasing risk of flooding, whilst improving biodiversity. At Aviva, we’re proud to offer our people up to 3 days volunteering leave per year 💛 #VolunteersWeek #HelpingTheUKGetReady

Bees are essential for the health of people and the planet. Honey has medicinal properties and the role of bees as pollinators makes them vital for our earth's entire eco and food system. We need these buzzy little creatures for survival, but their existence is being threatened. 1 in 4 bee species is at risk for extinction. To Celebrate National Honey Bee Day, we're donating 10% of all our proceeds on August 19th to The Bee Conservancy. The Bee Conservancy is a nonprofit org dedicated to protecting bees, safeguarding the environment, and securing food justice through community-based education, research, habitat creation and advocacy. But that's not all. To help generate more money for The Bee Conservancy, August 18th - 20th, when you buy any 375ml bottle of oil or vinegar, you get a FREE 60ml bottle of Honey Ginger Balsamic Vinegar with code: 23WENEEDBEES. #bees #honey #ginger #balsamic #conservation #oliveoil #nationalhoneybeeday #honeybee #honeybees #vinegar

🌊What does the ocean mean to you?🌊 For the last few hours of World Ocean Day 2024, let's take a moment to think about the services our blue planet provides for us. For me, completing university on the Cornish coastline meant having a soothing blue haven on my doorstep, to recover from the challenges of university life, to connect with nature, and spend many happy evenings on the beach with friends listening to the sound of the waves. In fact, the ocean is scientifically proven to improve mental health in humans. Looking further afield, in our troubled climate, the ocean takes most of the impact for us. Heatwaves would hit much harder if the sea didn't store as much thermal energy as it does. Tsunamis would be far more damaging if it weren't for coral reefs and mangroves absorbing wave energy. These impacts might be a little hard to imagine, especially if they're far from home. So take a moment to think, what does the ocean offer to you? How do you feel when you're by the sea? Let's keep forging a strong connection between people and the ocean, to celebrate and safeguard our blue planet. #WorldOceanDay
Cornwall is famous for its incredible coastline, and our surrounding seas are just as magnificent. From the weird and wonderful creatures in our rockpools 🦀 to megafauna like basking sharks 😲, we are doing all we can to protect the wildlife in our waters. Today, on #WorldOceanDay 🌊 , why not find out more about all we're doing and how you can get involved. From volunteering to making good seafood choices, everyone can help make a difference. Happy 4th! Celebrating the Fourth of July responsibly can make a significant positive impact on both the environment and the community. Instead of buying polluting firecrackers, consider these alternatives: 🇺🇸 Donate to Food Banks: Buy a bag of food for your local food bank or shelter. This not only helps those in need but also fosters a sense of community. 🇺🇸 Eco-Friendly Decorations: Use reusable or biodegradable decorations for your celebration. This reduces waste and is better for the environment. 🇺🇸 Community Clean-Up: Organize or participate in a community clean-up event. It’s a great way to give back and ensure that public spaces remain clean and enjoyable for everyone. 🇺🇸 Plant a Tree: Planting trees is a wonderful way to contribute to the environment. It’s a long-lasting tribute to Independence Day that benefits future generations. 🇺🇸 Buy food for animal shelters: Even a small bag of food goes a long way in helping our furry pals. 🇺🇸 Light Sparklers: If you still want some traditional fun, opt for sparklers. They are less polluting than large fireworks and can be enjoyed safely. By choosing these alternatives, you can celebrate the Fourth of July in a way that respects both the environment and your community. Thank you 🙏🏼♥️🇺🇸

The Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group have produced an animation to introduce the Integrated Local Delivery framework. ➡ Integrated Local Delivery (ILD) is a proven approach to tackling climate change at a local level. This film introduces the Integrated Local Delivery framework and the key role of the facilitator who brings all the local stakeholders together to scope risks and opportunities at a landscape level. The framework gives the facilitator the tools they need to connect locally relevant government, charitable, corporate and environmental organisations to work together in support. Find this tool and others for creating community dialogue: https://lnkd.in/eZ4-kY_Y #communityengagement #naturepositive #environmentalimpact

Who needs a bigger pod squad? At Earth Gives we are all about pods, shoals, flotillas, batterys and fevers. Of course we're talking about groups of fish. Scuba Diving magazine tells us that when fish swim together, they're called a shoal. When they swim in the same direction, it's called a school. That movement in unison is usually to help the school find food or mates. Earth Gives Day is embracing that same idea - having climate and environmental nonprofits swim together on one platform making it easier to have potential donor mates find you. This nationwide giving day is in response to eco philanthropy being stuck at just 2% of all giving. It is not enough to protect our futures and families. So if you're part of a US-based nonprofit that protects our lakes, rivers, waterways, oceans and their food-giving, life-saving, carbon-capturing power, then sign up today. (Yes, other wildlife, nature, climate and climate justice groups welcome too.)
