Keeping track of regulations and understanding how they affect your business can be a hot mess without proper organization and collaboration, experts said at our Women in Compliance Summit, held June 3-4, in Atlanta. Erin Brown, vice president and third-party risk operations manager for MUFG Bank, said having touchpoints, especially with information technology, can help with interpreting regulations and performing a gap analysis. In terms of the regulations themselves, “always read the footnotes,” she advised. While Brown’s session focused on the fundamentals of regulatory compliance, it was just one of many takeaways from the event, including mentorship driving diversity, how to foster board buy-in, tackling racial bias, AI risk mitigation, and plenty of networking opportunities. After a very long wait, the #FCA’s & #PRA’s Diversity & Inclusion in Financial Services consultation papers finally landed today! Partner Sophie White highlights:   🔹 This is a clear recognition from the FCA and PRA that widening the talent pool and reducing groupthink is key for the financial services sector 🔹 Proportionality is recognised: smaller firms (250 employees or less) and Limited Scope Firms will not be subject to the same requirements as other firms 🔹 Larger firms will have to report annually on specified diversity characteristics, Inclusion and targets – requiring good data collection 🔹 Non-financial misconduct, regularly referred to in FCA and PRA speeches, has not featured in the rules themselves – that will now change 🔹 The regulators stress flexibility. “We want large firms to publish plans for how they will move the dial on diversity and inclusion, but do not think it would be right for us to prescribe what that should look like”.

The proposals are wide-ranging and include measures to improve overall diversity (beyond gender) and address misconduct in regulated firms.
