My name is Pamela Walton. I'm an IT project manager for the Indiana Geographic Information Office. I say that I work with the map makers of the state. Officially, we use spatial data to help decision makers make informed decisions. I am personally very passionate about helping people access government resources. My team often jokes we are the antithesis of the security team. Their job is to make sure that data that they are getting, they're keeping locked down. And our job is to go out and collect data and make it open to the public. What are the aspects of the work that you're doing, specifically in your particular job, that you like the most and why? I get a lot of value out of enabling people who I understand are experts in their field and removing work from their desks. I often joke that my job is to prevent needless things from ending up on theirs. So I get to do that, and I also get to convey the value that they're adding to the state. Curious about the thing? That may be surprised you the most from the program. What surprised me the most was a sheet that I got on my first day, the accelerator sheet that had different categories of tasks that you can do outside of just your learning. Going back to that, about how much of the work that we do is relationships, knowing the right people to go to for the problems that we need solved. That sheet, I'm very goal oriented, so I was like, I'm going to complete this. Sheet I'm going to make sure I do one a week. And there were some that really made me step outside of my comfort zone, like planning a team lunch. You know, I just wouldn't have thought of that as an opportunity. I mean, the, the the roles that I had before were so demanding that it didn't feel like there was time in the schedule for those types of things. And this showed me the importance of it and the ability to do it. The antithesis of fitting in is belonging. And that is because fitting in, you're having to alter some part of you to match the group, but belonging is they take you as you are. I was ready to hit the ground running and become what they needed me to be. And I was so quickly hit with we want you as you are, which is a sense of belonging. And that's going to keep people coming back over and over again.
