Five years ago the stunning 'D-Day Sculpture' was installed at the British Normandy Memorial - it was the first part of this major project. The work by David Williams-Ellis Sculpture sits at the centre of the Memorial overlooking Gold Beach in Ver-sur-Mer. In June the world will see, for the first time, the sculpture alongside the completed Memorial. #dday80 #sculpture #secondworldwar #normandy #britishnormandymemorial #WW2 #anniversary

Janet Echelman’s newest permanent work, Bending Arc, is composed of 1,662,528 knots and 180 miles of twine, the aerial sculpture spans 424 feet and measures 72 feet at its tallest point. Echelman’s art embraces change. The monumental sculpture gently billows above the Pier District, allowing the wind to create a choreography of constantly changing shape in the sculpture’s soft surface. The sculpture’s color also transforms at every moment while its surface interplays with natural and projected light. #Recommendedreading #TheTimes: #AntonyGormley speaks to Rachel Campbell-Johnston for The Times. Discussing forthcoming projects, his career and the seminal sculpture ‘Angel of the North’ “It’s to do with taking sculpture away from the tradition of portraiture and going back to the fundamentals of existence, of capturing a moment of lived time and doing it in such a way that accepts the condition of sculpture as it is, which is still and silent…[going back] to an ancient need that our species has to make models of itself in order to understand itself.” Read more: https://bit.ly/3suIM5k #TheGuardian: Over the years, an unofficial memorial site has appeared near #AntonyGormley’s ‘Angel of the North’ prompting the sculpture to become the subject of a new research project at @Newcastle University. Researchers are interested in the cultural significance of the sculpture and the factors that inspired people to pay tribute to their loved ones nearby. “It does have the feel of a roadside memorial because it is, obviously, between two roads and you can hear the traffic all the time. But it’s not marking an accident, each person is marking their own personal thing … there is a communal aspect to it…some of the trees are claimed by and for individuals, so it’s a mix of things. The site also appears to have been created and added to by both local people who are presumably visiting regularly, and others from further away, almost on a pilgrimage.” Read more: https://bit.ly/40Hinh6

While narrow beam spotlighting is essential to “pop” this sculpture, it’s the backlighting that gives it dimension. #akldturns30 #akldlighting #lightingdesign #lightingdesignsecrets #sculpturelighting https://lnkd.in/gnxBe3fS

At a certain point, I just put the building and the art impulse together. I decided that building was a legitimate way to make sculpture. Martin Puryear . . . #wordpresswebsite #wordpresswebsitedesign #wordpresswebsitedevelopment #wordpresswebsitedesigner #wordpresssecurity #wordpresstips
