Companies can greatly benefit from corporate activism and more and more organizations are looking to impact significant societal problems, authentically. However, it is crucial for them to balance social impact with core values and productivity. Martin McEvoy, Managing Partner Signium Ireland believes that apart from organizational purpose, there is an imperative for all leaders to lead with fundamentally good values and to look at the human issue(s) first with genuine empathy and the organizational requirements second. He says: “You will find that as well as ‘being the right thing to do’, this is a much more powerful way to motivate all colleagues to contribute to the collective success of any enterprise or body.” Ken Bowles, Global CFO of Smurfit Kappa (a client of Signium Ireland), said in a recent leadership interview: “You can work for an organization or be part of an organization…...You should be able to look back and say I’ve done some good and that isn’t just the top or the bottom line…...it extends to the team and community around you”. *New Blog* from Diversity Leadership Insights: Inclusion week 2023 In a series of articles, we discuss topical issues facing industry leaders, all through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion (D,E &I) With this week marking inclusion week and the theme being 'Take Action, Make Impact', we thought we’d pass the reigns onto other business leaders to give us their thoughts on diversity and inclusion, and what action they are taking to bring about impactful change in their industry. Our first blog comes from Scullion LAW. A huge thank you to Urfan Dar, Nicholas Scullion and Doyin Akinola for their time, stories and wisdom. Here's a small extract from the blog: How can National Inclusion Week serve as a platform to inspire legal professionals to take meaningful actions and create lasting impacts? 'Inclusion week will serve as a platform to have real discussions about diversity and inclusion. Discussions about ‘what’, ‘why’, and ‘how’ in the realm of diversity and inclusion, need to be brought to the fore in order to create meaningful change within the legal profession. Lessons that are learned can then be adopted and a positive shift towards cultivating a more inclusive culture within the profession initiated.' Makes yourself a cuppa, get comfortable, (but not too comfortable, it's only a 8 minute read). What a privilege it was to chair the panel discussion today with these inspiring leader’s at Outstanding Schools Middle East 2023. Our panel discussion was on Allyship and Advocacy: Ensuring Equitable Leadership Opportunities for Women and Educators of Colour. It was an absolutely pleasure to discuss: 🔘What challenges do some women and educators of colour face advancing to senior leadership in international schools? 🔘What can be done to disrupt the systems and structures that support this? 🔘 How can our recruitment processes can foster inequity and what we can do to address this? 🔘 What can senior leader do to confront conscious and unconscious biases? 🔘 What does it truely mean to be an ally to women and educators or colour? #OSME2023 #OutstandingSchoolsMiddleEast2023 #Allyship #Advocacy #EquitableLeadership #WomenInLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #RLS Jodie Drew جودي درو BSc (Hons), PGCE, MA, NPQH Dr. Carla Caviness Anita Stewart Tracy Moxley Hannah Burke-Tomlinson

inclusive leadership with self advocacy. courage is critical.
The Courage Coach. Helping individuals, teams and organizations have the courageous conversations that will liberate them towards their next transformation. Founder and Lead Practitioner at Narachi Leadership.
It's one thing to bring people into the organization, it's another to really let them in. Inclusive leadership depends on your ability as a leader to ask underrepresented members of your organization or team what their critical needs are. To ask how they are experiencing the environment and if they feel seen and supported. Don't take for granted that you understand this. But it's also important that those of us coming as underrepresented members take courage in advocating for our needs. Sometimes we are not included not because people are actively excluding us but because we exclude ourselves. We vote ourselves out of the equation because we are scared to fully show up in the face of difference or power. The real Katherine Johnson whose character was played by Taraji P. Henson in Hidden Figures, said in an interview that she actually did use the white bathrooms. We need that kind of stubbornness and defiance to include ourselves. We always have agency for self advocacy and we shouldn't allow the victimhood narrative to paralyse us of our power. #fundamentals #inclusiveleadership #agency
