The drone can dock onto facades using suction cups and then drill precise holes in the wall using an integrated drill. The advantages of the technology is that this flying robot could reduce the work of humans at dangerous heights and thus bring down the number of accidents. Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) Summit Recap: Progress and Potential Todays DIU Summit demonstrated a commendable alignment of DoD leaders around autonomous solutions and attritable drones. Cross-departmental collaboration offers a powerful foundation for the rapid development and deployment of these vital technologies. However, future summits need to actively engage a broader spectrum of industry expertise. Small businesses and start-ups frequently drive disruption and possess the cutting-edge capabilities and agility that can drastically advance modernization efforts. They were very noticeably absent. The DIU has the potential to serve as a critical bridge, connecting the DoD's substantial resources with the agility and fresh perspectives of the small business community. DIU needs to significantly broaden its network and establish itself as an ally to startups, to ensure the United States maintains a significant technological EDGE in the autonomous systems space. Otherwise, it risks significant tunnel vision innovation and expertise, which won't look pretty on the battlefield. I'm hopeful but definitely not sold on the DODs ability to achieve a goal that requires so many people to think and work differently - let alone, not as a waiver, but long term, repeatable. But as one of the panelists mentioned - that achievement alone would be a significant deterrent factor. #DIU #DoD #autonomousUAS #smallbusiness #startups #modernizationefforts
