Fire causes New York City to remove the red tape restricting e-charging infrastructure
In response to a recent fire that killed 4 people and injured 7, the city of New York has launched a “Safe Charging Accelerator” - An accelerator that quickens the approval timeline for e-charging infrastructures like ours. This fire, which was caused by a lithium ion battery, catalyzed this response from Mayor Adams. This accelerator means we can install more stations across NYC, and we’re eager about this because it increases the pool of safe batteries. To further tackle NYC fires issue, the City's Department of Transportation (DOT) is also launching a trade-in scheme, whereby users of light electric vehicles can trade their uncertified devices, such as e-bikes and batteries, for safe and certified models.
The urgent demand for tested and certified solutions is why we’re committed to making our battery stations more widespread, more accessible, and more active in NYC. The alliance between the DOT, Mayor Adams, and the FDNY in support of e-charging infrastructure, helps us to do so, and that is something we honor. Our solution is already prepared to meet the needs of New Yorkers
