Why is there a picture of esteemed rapper, producer and entrepreneur Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs below this post I hear you ask? Because LinkedIn connections, forgive me but I am about to do some Diddy-level bragging about our presence at DSEI. But before I start, some context. I absolutely love DSEI. It’s the world’s biggest show in defence and has a scale that is breathtaking. You can find yourself making idle chitchat with a air force colonel from Pakistan or an Australian CEO of a drone manufacturer and it really feels like the whole world is under the roof of the Excel centre (with some pretty obvious exceptions!). It’s really hard work, and my enthusiasm for the show may be slightly dimmed on the morning of day 4 but worth every minute So here’s some facts about Make UK Defence at DSEI 👉 Our pavilion is colossal. At 399 sq. metres, it is the joint 10th largest stand on the show floor (tied with our friends at QinetiQ ). This is bigger than some of the biggest defence companies in the world, bigger than many national pavilions. 👉 47 companies are exhibiting or partnering with us at our pavilion, this absolutely blows past previous editions of DSEI. 👉 It’s not just the quantity of who we have on our stand, but the sheer quality and diversity that impresses. Everyone and everything from air traffic control systems to actuators, spun metal products to subsea technology, CBRN detection to composites. 👉 Over 100 Make UK Defence members in total (25% of our membership) will be exhibiting across the show floor, either with us or in the many zones and pavilions. 👉 We’ve got some really exciting plans, with international delegations, prime contractor visits, drinks receptions, networking meaning this will be our most impactful show to date. 👉 Our plans for DSEI 2025 are even bigger than this year! See you at H2-250 on September 12-15th! Never before performance! Qatari Air Force F-15/QA has made its formal public debut in style this week and has been wowing the crowds at the Dubai Airshow. Unburdened by any stores, without its conformal fuel tanks, and with outstanding fly-by-wire flight controls system, the airframe is rated to handle up to 9Gs while maneuvering, but the flight systems can be set to allow for up to 12Gs in an "emergency." Equipped with a pair of powerful F110-GE-129 engines rated for 30k Ib of thrust with afterburners. This is the most maneuverability for any F-15 variant achieved without thrust vectoring performing a tailslide, abrupt pulls, and extreme high-alpha flying. When asked, what is the angle of attack (AoA) limit is on the F-15QA, Boeing said: “There isn’t one.”! #airshow #aviation FL360aero

The EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency just published an NPA proposing to introduce new or updated standards for parts, taking into account the principles of efficiency and harmonisation. The objective is to maintain the high level of safety by: — recognising the latest industry standards (e.g. EUROCAE Documents (EDs), Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics Documents (RTCA DOs), or other); — harmonising with the corresponding Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Standard Orders (TSOs); — incorporating new ETSOs; — amending existing ETSOs; — introducing new guidance material. The proposed regulatory material is expected to offer more possibilities for EU applicants to obtain ETSO authorisations and to align CS-ETSO with the state of the art and with European operational requirements. The proposed amendments are expected to ensure a level playing field for European manufacturers and increase the cost-effectiveness of compliance demonstrations The commenting period is open until 03/07/2024. You can have a look at the proposal here: https://lnkd.in/dXdt-9CP #easa #etso #safety #airworthiness

Flexibility: Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), Airborne Early Warning (AEW), Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) plus Command and Control (C2) all in one platform. It would be an excellent choice for Arctic Surveillance - maybe as a common Nordic asset?

Massive orders for UAE carriers at the Dubai Airshow could present a challenge to some regulators – but not the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the nation’s regulator. Saif Mohammed Al Suweidi, the Director General of GCAA, explains how he and his team are excited about the prospect. The GCAA is also hosting the ICAO Third Conference on Aviation Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3) next month ahead of COP 28. Suweidi explains why leading initiatives such as these – and developing the right environment for advanced air mobility – is a key role for the regulator.
