What an incredible experience at AOPO this week! From insightful sessions on the future of organ procurement and preservation to connecting with like-minded professionals, we're thrilled to play a part in improving organ transplantation. Also, thank you to everyone who joined us Tuesday night for Bridge to Life's reception at Crooked Branch's Right Alcove! Your presence made the evening truly unforgettable. We hope you enjoyed the experience as much as we enjoyed hosting it for you! Looking forward to more memorable gatherings in the future. 🥂 #BridgetoLife #AOPO24

In January 2021, ESOT began developing a platform for hosting pan-European scientific transplant registries. The ESOT registries are pivotal in advancing equitable transplantation by enabling data-driven decisions, fostering research and innovation, promoting collaboration, and empowering stakeholders to advocate for improved patient access and outcomes. With #ESOTAction Day approaching, it's time for the community to come together and highlight the critical importance of collecting and analyzing data on procedures and outcomes. This action is the first recommendation in ESOT's manifesto, which calls for urgent measures to enhance equitable and sustainable organ transplantation throughout Europe. It can be challenging to explain what cholangiocarcinoma is and explain what we do, but Vincent DiMauro, Christina Gambogi, Paige Rew, Katie Glenn, Skye C. Mayo, MD, MPH, FACS, Juan W. Valle, MB ChB MSc FRCP, Dave Fleischer, Linda Fleischer, and Alex Strati, Jr. do a pretty great job of it. I invite you all to watch this video and learn more about the heart of the #cholangiocarcinoma community: https://lnkd.in/eQWwN_gn #curecca #ccahope #hope #oncologyresearch #rarecancer #raredisease

Living donor liver transplant (LDLT) in PBC can lead to improved outcomes, including better graft survival and reduced wait times. However, deceased donor liver transplant (DDLT) remains a vital option for those in need. Both options offer hope and improved quality of life for those with PBC. #LiverTransplant #PBC

A new Nature paper revealed a monkey lived for two years after receiving a gene-edited pig kidney designed by eGenesis. Holy cow (er, pig). It's one of a cluster of advances over the past two years from teams trying to bring pig-to-human organ transplants, whether for hearts, livers or kidneys, out of the realm of fantasy and to the patients in desperate need of a donor. Each of these experiments teaches researchers about how to do it better next time --how to design a better organ, choose an immunosuppressive regimen after transplant, pick the right patients to receive them. But the learning so far has largely been in monkeys. The field seems on the cusp of finally testing these out in actual clinical trials in humans. That's a big leap to make. But if there's any chance of closing the huge gap between people who need organs and those that receive them, will need to happen eventually. More from me in my Bloomberg Opinion column:

We have renamed our organization to better reflect our goals and commitment to the organ transplant field. Say hello to “Organs for Life”! Our objectives continue to include those things which will make organ transplants safer, less costly and more available, such as supporting and encouraging small laboratories doing organ transplant research; educating the public about the difficulties and achievements in organ transplant research; encouraging people to press their legislators to continue to support this important research in large laboratories; and general support of those who have had, or who need organ transplant. The CryoPrize will still be an important part of these efforts. #OrgansforLife #organtransplant
