Our customers published a paper in Circulation~ 👨🔬 Vascular calcification is characterized by calcium deposition in the arterial wall and osteochondral differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells, and is an actively regulated process involving complex mechanisms. And vascular calcification occurs in most patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). 👩🔬 4-Hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), the major end product of lipid peroxidation, is an extremely reactive toxic aldehyde that can induce protein carbonylation and react with nucleic acids. So what is the mechanism by which 4-HNE plays a role in vascular calcification? 🧐 👏 👏 This study demonstrated that 4-HNE increased the stability of Runx2 by directly carbonylating the K176 site of Runx2 and promoted vascular calcification.
