Currently, in Nigeria we are seeing more frustrated employees who hang on jobs because of bills to pay.💸💸💸 The work environment has become so toxic because of poor management skills. Sometimes, I think companies promote this lackadaisical culture by hiring under skilled manpower. If the managerial team are handicapped the lower chamber suffers huge damage. A manager with no good moral decorum is going to destroy people's personalities in processing his leadership. Such managers believe in leadership by talking and talking doesn't get the work done. To build a strong organizational culture the doers are the go getters. They do it right hence my team should do it right. Even under studying such Manager you become a technocrat. Can we reduce the daily meetings that stresses people out, reduce the noise and bank on doing the right things. Hit the nail on the job description and erase unnecessary chit chats called meetings. When you build a strong Organizational Culture you meet less and do more. #OrganizationalCulture #SayNoToToxicWorkEnvironment. #PromotoMutualRespect #DoTheWork #DontTalkIt

The Power of Teamwork: A Leader's Perspective With over 18 years in banking and finance, I've learned that teamwork is the backbone of success. Managing upwards involves clear communication with senior management, while managing downwards means guiding and supporting my team to achieve their full potential. Recognizing and leveraging everyone's strengths is crucial. For example, in a previous role, we faced a challenging project with a tight deadline. One teammate took charge of organizing and designing the PowerPoint slides, while another focused on the financial analysis and data. Their combined efforts allowed me to synthesize the information and present a compelling proposal to our stakeholders, ultimately securing the project's approval. This collaboration highlighted how leveraging individual strengths can drive the team towards achieving our goals effectively. Teamwork brings diverse problem-solving, shared responsibility, continuous learning, and strong relationships. Maintaining connections with former colleagues recently helped me achieve a significant task in my current role. Let's create an environment where everyone feels empowered to contribute their best. Happy Friday! #Leadership #Teamwork #BusinessGrowth #ManagingUpwards #ManagingDownwards #TeamSuccess #BankingAndFinance Development Bank Ghana Fidelity Bank Ghana

#EndBadGovernance: A Call for Accountability and an Effective Performance Management System The end bad governance protest has erupted in the last few days and there are several dimensions to their agitation. If we consider Nigeria as a large corporation, it's evident that we are grappling with a severe revenue challenge, further exacerbated by a high operational expenditure and a complete failure in achieving our corporate goals and objectives. These issues stem from, mismanagement of scare resources and failure of leadership and communication. This is the typical situation of a ‘company’ that lacks an effective performance management system. The era where Government officials and politicians continue in office despite gross underperformance is gradually becoming a thing of the past. There must be a complete Mindshift of public officials to have a higher sense of responsibility in managing public asset and national wealth. Each office holder must begin to do a self-evaluation of their performance since assuming office. The government has asked for patience and more time for their efforts to yield results. However, the protesters are saying NO for lack of trust. The real issue is a lack of an effective performance management system which has become obvious in the midst of scare resources. An effective performance management system comprises of 3 major components: 1. Performance Planning and Goal Setting 2. Performance Tracking and Monitoring 3. Performance Evaluation and Appraisal One major benefits of an effective performance management system that is often undermined, is that it helps to build TRUST and transparency with stakeholders. Effective Communication and Accountability are critical components of an effective performance management system. In addition, we cannot talk about achievements where there are no performance plans, clear SMART goals and Key Performance Indicators. Finally, an effective and transparent performance management system has the capacity to mitigate corruption within any system, organisation or the nation. 7 critical questions that needs to be answered by the leadership team. 1. What are the overarching goals of the Nigerian Company? 2. Are the goals SMARTs? 3. What are the key performance indicators (KPIs) of the current administration? 4. How will performance in Government be measured? 5. What are the delivery milestones? 6. What are underperformance consequence management in place? 7. How do we reward performance in Nigeria?

THE WILLINGNESS TO EMBRACE RISK. Earlier this year in my career, I took an opportunity to transition from content and marketing (in tech) to providing recruitment solutions to leading brands in the Nigerian FMCG Market. It was a bold move, and required all the courage I could muster. Well, here's one thing about BEING COURAGEOUS that we don't hear enough... It takes THE WILLINGNESS TO EMBRACE RISK to be truly courageous. "What kind of risk?" For starters, I specialise in headhunting for senior and executive management professionals to drive business growth for my clients in the Personal Care and Retail sectors. And from conversations with managers and directors across tiers in the industry—from multinationals to indigenous businesses—the concerns raised aren't far-fetched. Considering Nigeria's current economic climate, it's easy to understand the kind of risk these businesses face. Again, what kind of risk? Truth is, more than ever before, FMCG businesses in Nigeria face the risk of shutting down operations and/or leaving our shores, and sadly, some have already gone down that road. Interestingly, however, amidst difficulties in the market, there are industry leaders still actively seeking top talent to help drive growth, efficiency, market share, and profitability for their companies. Now, that takes COURAGE—expanding in a clime where people INCLUDING YOUR COMPETITORS expect you to actively downsize. But it's also a CALCULATED RISK because at the end of the day, PEOPLE ARE THE ANSWER TO PROBLEMS. Back to my story. I realise more than ever before that the work I do today is no child's play. As a recruitment consultant, I'm well aware that the future of a business rests on its people. So, while I empathize with business leaders having to lay off talent at this time, it could be riskier not creating room for BUSINESS DRIVERS—people who can, in fact, help you open new markets and minimize spend across key business functions. If you're a business leader reading this, and would like to hop on a call with me regarding your current or projected talent needs, send me a DM. Let's talk. Feel free to also share your thoughts in the comments. If you're meeting me for the first time, my name is Prince , and I'm a recruitment consultant over at FMCG Search. Follow and connect with me for more posts like this to inspire you personally and professionally. #fmcgindustry #fmcgcompanies #recruitmentconsultant #recruitmentsolutions
