The first of June, the final of the world's most watched club competition took place. ⚽️ On one side we had superpower Real Madrid, who have won the CL trophy no less than 15 times versus Borussia Dortmund, who won the coveted trophy only once. It was an exciting duel somewhat reminiscent of the classic David vs. Goliath story. At Mentally Fit, we believe there is no difference in the business world. Every year, for the first two weeks of July, my desk set up typically looks a bit like this👇🏼🎾 I absolutely LOVE Wimbledon (and Tennis generally), and am always totally in awe of the grit displayed by top flight tennis players in major tournaments like this 🤩 While sports to business analogies are potentially a little overplayed (sorry) I can’t help but find myself inspired by the parallels, for example: ▶ Top flight tennis players win a remarkably low % of overall points 🤯 For me, this stat doesn’t only talk to mindset of being able to quickly move on from mistakes (as Federer has famously spoken about lately), but also the importance of recognising the points that matter most, and putting the best of your ability into the most critical game-changers 👊🏼 ▶ It is possible to go two sets down and still win (who saw the Fritz <> Zverev thriller on Monday?!) 💪🏼 ▶ NEVER underestimate the underdog - they have more to prove and less to lose, meaning they aren’t afraid to be creative 😎 and do whatever it takes to win (sound familiar, fellow startups? 😉) What takeaways and inspiration do you take away from your favourite sports and apply to your professional pursuits? 💡 #Entrepreneurship #SportInBusiness #Wimbledon2024

🎾📈 Just got back from the Pro Padel Tournament in Houston and couldn't help but notice the striking parallels between padel and entrepreneurship! 🚀 1️⃣ Teamwork: Padel is a doubles sport, much like a successful founding team or even a business partnership between two companies. Both demand an intimate knowledge of your partner's strengths and weaknesses, outstanding communication, and the determination to stick together through both the highs and lows. A great relationship is a game-changer. 2️⃣ Where Strategy meets Execution: Padel requires a blend of deep understanding of the game, combined with agility and flawless execution. Sometimes, there's only one right shot to play, but often, there are multiple options available. Decisions must be based on sound understanding and data, yet adaptable to changing circumstances. 3️⃣ Patience Pays Off: Padel features long rallies; patience is key. The best players relish the back-and-forth until the perfect opportunity arises to strike. Yes, sales people, I'm talking to you – stay patient and seize the right moment! Watching beginners also provided some valuable insights: 4️⃣ Never Give Up: In padel, the point isn't over until you believe it's over. The padel walls offer second, and sometimes even third chances for you or your teammate to reach the ball, especially when it starts off heading in the opposite direction. 5️⃣ Stay Focused and Stay Ready: Don't celebrate too soon! I've seen beginners celebrate an incredible shot, only to be caught off guard when the ball comes back at them a few seconds later. Much more important to get back in position, and THEN celebrate after the point (or deal) is truly over. Any other lessons you've learned from padel that apply to entrepreneurship?
