Joining us four years ago, Allison Notturnniano recently stepped into her role of Field Service Supervisor. Allison originally served as ProLift’s Rental Specialist and in this role also oversaw Transportation. My advice would be to jump in and learn by asking questions. You must have the confidence to speak up and let your voice be heard. In my opinion, this industry is so fascinating. The world cannot go around without us, and COVID is proof of that. We haven’t slowed down since! "What has been your favorite project/event at ProLift over your last 12 months, and why?" – Since beginning my role as Field Service Supervisor, I have been involved in a lot of projects. My favorite project was helping with our ASEC recertification, working with a service technician to 5S his van. Our Toyota ASEC rep, Rick, told us that it was an honor to photograph our van. It’s been one year since I left the public sector, and this week I’m celebrating my first anniversary at Flock Safety. I still miss my #RealTime crew, but making the leap of faith was the best thing I’ve ever done. A couple of takeaways: 1) Evaluate the best parts of your previous career and bring those qualities into the new one. 2) Work fast, work hard, and don’t be afraid of levity. Be a workhorse, but be the desk that people want to stop at. 3) Public Safety Technology, whether on this side or the LE side, is still the best job in the world.

Today we celebrated Global Safety Day at Svitzer with the theme ‘We Make it Safe to Speak Up’. Speaking up at work about a situation, problem, mistake, or just contributing is not always easy. We are humans, and we cannot deny that sometimes we may feel insecure in our roles and afraid of being judged, excluded, ashamed, or blamed for our opinions or mistakes. However, I have learned through the years that: First: mistakes happen. I had a boss in the past who always said to me: that only a person who does not work makes a mistake. Making mistakes is part of life and always part of the job, and the key here is how we deal with them. Second: we have a role to play, and the Company hired each one of us because understood that we were the best person to be in that position. That said, we must protect the Company from any risk, which means that we need to speak up every time something is not right. Third: we will always have some level of insecurity because is part of human nature, however, this feeling cannot prevent us from acting diligently. The day as the one today, just shows how much Svitzer is committed to maintaining an environment where we all feel confident in voicing any concerns, doubts, ideas, contributions, or questions. #safety #maritime #speakup #svitzer #port #legal

Meet the magic, Exec Edition 🍀 Suns out, brunch out with our very own Group Ops Director, Benjamin Litchfield. Ben shares his thoughts on what motivates him to lead a successful team at Bill's Restaurants! Q. What was your first job?        A. Motor Vehicle technician (mechanic) at Donnington race track in the Midlands. That's my first proper job anyway. I did some washing up/ delivering newspapers etc part time before that.    Q. What made you join Bill's?   A. A role became available in Exeter, which was a place I’d always fancied living. After the first interview, I could tell this was the right business for me. Over 10 years ago now…. Q. How do you motivate yourself every day?  A. Having the opportunity to positively impact the course of the business/ the 2000 people that work within it is more than enough motivation to keep me on my toes…(it’s a bit scary if I’m honest).   Q. What makes you happy at work?  A. In my role, most things take time to come to fruition. So seeing positive cultural change, typically over a period of time, is something that always makes me smile.    Q. What advice would you give someone looking to start or grow their career?  A. Don’t be fooled by what you see on social. It’s never as easy as most suggest. Put in the hard work & remember, any role in leadership is a servant role. We’re here for our team & guests & NEVER the other way around. Being a leader or mentor to others in a zoo or safari park isn’t always as simple as it looks or as some may think it is. At times you may need to stand up for what is right and that may mean that at times you may need to disagree with the parks Director or Operations manager. In a safe environment this should not be a problem if you are standing up for what is right and not just being disagreeable just for the sake of being a thorn in the side of management. The times where a strong leader should disagree with the parks Director or Operations manager is when their decisions are not ethical and moral or when the other team members need a voice of reason. No one is saying that this is easy to do and in an unsafe environment it can be treacherous to your career particularly if the management have little understanding on what is right and wrong or are to proud to accept that they are wrong. In this type of situation it is really up to each individual to decide for themselves what they must do, as everyone’s personal situation is different. But the fact is that if a zoo or safari park Director or Operation Manager can’t allow team members to question unethical decisions then they need to be removed or for the sake of the park be taken under the wing of someone that understands the ethics of running a park and be mentored until things have changed for the better.
