🌐 Education.org’s Roundtable at the Global Refugee Forum, Geneva    On December 14th, Education.org will co-convene a high-level roundtable as an Official Linked Event of the Global Refugee Forum. This event, in collaboration with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the Ministries of Education of Uganda and South Sudan, focuses on the challenges & opportunities in integrating refugees into national education systems.   📘 Inclusive Education Systems The session, titled ‘Inclusive Education Systems: A Dialogue with National Leaders Around Policy Challenges and Opportunities,’ is part of the GRF’s Linked Events Schedule. It’s UNESCO International Day of Education and given the theme – learning for lasting peace – I think particularly of the Instant Network Schools run by Vodafone Foundation and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.   Our programme delivers digital education to refugees and children from host communities. We now have 118 #INS centres in six African countries and have supported 274,288 students and 4,705 teachers since 2013.     As Izere, a refugee from Burindi now attending an INS secondary school in Maratane Mozambique, says, education is about delivering hope for the future.   The number of people being displaced by war and conflict continues to grow, as does their time in displacement. Reducing inequalities and equipping refugees with the necessary skills they need for the future makes them assets for their host communities and able to support the rebuilding of their home areas in the future.   Every child has a right to a quality education. This does not pause in times of emergency and displacement; instead, the importance of education is amplified. Despite the efforts of programmes like INS, 7 million refugee children remain out of education today indicating that we need far more investment into this key area.   #EducationdDay #VodafoneFoundation

The Rohingya children often face significant barriers to education, particularly those living in refugee camps. Many Rohingya families fled violence and persecution in Myanmar, resulting in disruptions to their education. In refugee camps, overcrowding, limited resources, and a lack of qualified teachers further exacerbate the situation. Additionally, restrictions on the Rohingya's freedom of movement and access to formal education in host countries like Bangladesh pose additional challenges. Refugee Empowerment Through Education is A Vital Investment for the Future Education is more than just reading, writing, and arithmetic. It's a gateway to opportunity, a builder of communities, and a fortress against adversity. Education is the cornerstone of opportunity and a critical lifeline for refugee youth. In Kakuma Refugee Camp, nearly 40,000 young souls are seeking a semblance of normalcy amidst the chaos of displacement through. Globally (according to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency), the situation is dire: close to half of all refugee children – 48 percent – remain out of school. In Kakuma, the challenges are compounded by limited resources, with only 6% of secondary eligible children enrolled in schools. Despite these challenges, the power of education remains undiminished. It offers refugee children a stable and safe environment, helping them to rebuild their communities and pursue meaningful lives. Education is a fundamental right, it's one of the most valuable assets a refugee can have. It empowers them with knowledge, skills, and the confidence to live productive, fulfilling, and independent lives. At TEDI Africa, we understand the transformative impact of education.
