Near to 10,000 people in our community (9946, to be precise) have taken a pledge to donate a portion of their income to effective charities. That includes: 🔸 the 10% Pledge, 🔹 the Trial Pledge, and the Further Pledge. Emma took a 6-month trial pledge last year, and we're so pleased that it gave her the confidence to commit to giving 10% of her income until she retires! A few sobering stats from the "Household Food Insecurity in Canada, 2022"◽ report: ◾ 22.9% of households in Newfoundland and Labrador experienced some degree of food insecurity in the previous 12 months, amounting to 116,000 people. ◾ This is the highest rate in any of the ten provinces in Canada. ◾ 28.8% of children under 18 in Newfoundland and Labrador lived in food-insecure households. Since 2022, NLCU has held its annual NLCU Fall Food Drive to help support individuals and families in Newfoundland and Labrador who experience food insecurity to get the nourishment they need. It’s time to start saving your Acme receipts again! Donating your receipts to the library makes a substantial impact by helping us distribute books to the community. A collection box is located near the Checkout Desk, or you can drop receipts into our Book Drop. Receipts must be received by February 23, 2025. Here's how it works: The bottom of your Acme receipt lists a Community Cash Back amount. For every receipt you submit, we receive 5% of that total as a donation.

We've recently been interviewing some of the 3,278 readers who've contacted us to share what having free access to one of University of Michigan Press's books has meant to them. We’re so grateful.” Through the Rose Vouchers for Fruit and Veg project, we don’t just help families to eat, we help them eat well. The benefits are clear, and practical: 🍇 Families’ fruit and veg intake improves by an average of 3 portions a day. 🍋 55% of parents now eat at least 5 portions of fruit & veg a day, up from 15%. 🍎 64% of children now eat at least 5 portions of fruit & veg a day, up from 7%. In the last 12 months, we’ve supported 4,136 families, including over 6,204 children, to buy healthy fresh fruit and veg and avoid food poverty with over £900,000 in Rose Vouchers. That’s a 39% year-on-year increase which we’ve been able to provide thanks to your generosity. But the need is still growing. Despite falling inflation, prices remain stubbornly high, and more people in the UK are experiencing food poverty.
