A little bit of interesting history for you today June 19th, 1865, when Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas, confirming the war's end and ensuring the freedom of all enslaved individuals. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was a beacon of hope in 1863, it took over two years for its promises to be realised in Texas, the last state of the Confederacy with institutional slavery. As we commemorate this pivotal moment in history, let's reflect on the journey towards equality and justice. The resilience and courage of those freed on Juneteenth continue to inspire. Let's honour their legacy by fostering inclusivity and championing diversity in our workplaces and communities. Yet, as we celebrate progress, let us also acknowledge the road ahead. The pursuit of justice is ongoing, and we must commit ourselves to creating a future where opportunity and freedom are not just ideals but realities for all. This Juneteenth, take time to educate, to celebrate, and to act. Whether through community service, participating in events, or simply broadening our collective understanding—every effort counts in honouring this significant day in history. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Equality

As voting season approaches for indigenous community, notice a growing sense of division murmuring through community, which once stood united in support of one another. In the past, if an elder or mother needed anything, the community rallied together to provide assistance. However, I fear unity has waned due to the historical injustices within the colonized system, where one was forced to fight for meager resources to survive. That era has passed, and it's time to transcend divisions. Instead of pitting one member against another, let us remember our strength lies in unity. As we navigate the intersection of tradition and the future, it's essential to strike a balance that preserves our heritage while embracing progress. Stand together drawing upon collective wisdom and resilience to forge a future where solidarity prevails over division.

On this International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Abolition, we unite in memory of the victims of the transatlantic slave trade and honor the resilience of those who fought for freedom. This year's theme, "Fighting Slavery's Legacy of Racism Through Transformative Education," reminds us that education is a powerful tool to dismantle the chains of racism and prejudice that persist in our world. Let us commit to educating ourselves and future generations about the history of slavery, the struggle for abolition, and the ongoing fight against racial inequality. Together, we can create a world where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background. Join us in commemorating this day by spreading awareness, engaging in meaningful conversations, and supporting initiatives that promote equality, justice, and inclusivity. Let us honor the past by working towards a more equitable future for all. #EndSlavery #RememberAndReflect #EducationForChange #UNESCO #alleyesonjudiciary #GSAI #EndGenderDiscrimination #unwomennigeria

#Abolition #EndSlavery ✊25th March is recognized as a day to remember the enslaved victims of the ‘Transatlantic Slave Trade,’ known officially by the UN as ‘International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.’ 🌍 As part of their colonial projects over the course of the 16th and 20th centuries, European and North American colonizers subjugated, kidnapped and enslaved at least 13 million African peoples, along with countless other colonial subjects. They were then transported across the Atlantic Ocean and beyond, and forced into dehumanizing, extremely demanding physical labor to build what we now know as the capitalist empires of the ‘Global North.’ ⛓️ It was this uncompensated labor of the victims of the ‘Transatlantic Slave Trade’ that made the European and North American empires so disproportionately prosperous, then and now. 🤎 If we want to commit to #Decolonization, we must not view the ‘Transatlantic Slave Trade’ as just a historical event that ended in the past. Enslavement still shows itself in a multitude of ways in our present day, including mass incarceration, racism, and forced labor of Black and brown peoples across the world. 🪢 We must all collectively understand our responsibility to uplift our African, Caribbean, and other Black and brown global relatives, stand in solidarity with them, and give them credit and reparations whenever they are due. Read more on our website: https://lnkd.in/gq3XEBAD #WeAreManushyan ♾️ Equal Human Beings ✊ We live in a global society; as well as recognizing oppression and inequity in our own communities, we must recognize as well how this is tied to the oppression and inequity of others, even if they are geographically far away from us. #EndForcedLabor #EndSlavery #BlackLivesMatter #Decolonization #Reparations #AllEmpiresMustFall #ACAB #MassIncarceration #Abolition #GlobalSolidarity #GlobalSouthPower #CollectiveLiberation #DiasporaAwareness #DiasporaSolidarity #Equity #Migrants #EndThePrisonIndustrialComplex

National Freedom Day commemorates the emancipation from slavery. On this day in 1865, President Lincoln officially adopted the 13th Amendment, a pivotal moment that abolished slavery in the United States. This historic amendment underscores the principles of equality and freedom for all individuals, leaving an indelible mark on American history. It is essential to recognize the profound impact of this quest for freedom, justice, and equality not only in the United States but also on Canada. The Underground Railroad, a network of secret routes and safe houses, played a crucial role in the escape of enslaved individuals to freedom, with some finding sanctuary in Canada. This shared history highlights the interconnected struggle for human rights and freedom on both sides of the border. In the spirit of our collective journey towards justice and equality, National Freedom Day serves as a poignant reminder. Let's celebrate the richness of diversity that defines each of us, fostering unity in our differences as we work together for a more promising and harmonious future.
