As Independence Day quickly approaches, we know many of us are excited for the celebrations this weekend. As you prepare for your 4th of July festivities, it is import to consider your pets as well! -Keep your pets inside the house, where they are safe and comfortable. -Place curtains over any windows to minimize the visual stimulation Play calming music, white noise, or Animal Planet on the TV. -Give your pets their favorite toys so they can keep their minds busy and not focused on the loud fireworks. Try filling a toy with treats. -Some pets are more anxious than others. We recommend talking to your veterinarian to see if any medication could aid in keeping your pet’s stress level down. -If you need to take your dog outside to use the bathroom, make sure they are wearing a properly fitted collar or harness while they are leashed even if you have a fence. -Double check your fence to make sure there are no openings or loose areas, as well as checking that all latches are secure. -Make sure all pets are wearing up-to-date I.D. tags on their collar or harness. **Make sure your pet is also microchipped and that your information is current.

As December approaches we all start to feel the excitement of the holiday season! In aged care facilities, creating a warm and festive atmosphere is always a priority for our aged care teams to ensure residents feel the love and joy that Christmas brings. But how can we foster a sense of community, connection, and holiday spirit to our residents in the festive season? We spoke with some of our partner aged care facilities to ask this question, and they have all discussed one core element which surrounds organising different activities to spread the cheer in the Christmas season! 🎄Decorate with Festive Cheer: Involving residents in decorating communal areas with festive ornaments, lights, Christmas trees, and personalized DIY crafts can instantly uplift spirits and foster a sense of accomplishment and creativity. 🎄Musical Merriment: Organizing Christmas carol sessions or live musical performances featuring local choirs or musicians. 🎄Culinary Delights: Planning festive menus, including traditional Christmas treats and meals that cater to residents' dietary needs. Organizing baking sessions and inviting local chefs for cooking demonstrations, providing an interactive and delicious experience. 🎄Gift Exchanges and Secret Santa: Facilitating a gift exchange program or a Secret Santa event within the facility. 🎄Memory Lane: Evoke nostalgic vibes this season by displaying vintage photos and holiday memorabilia, inspiring residents to share cherished stories and traditions. Outside of the work of the in-house teams at each facility, we can all continue to motivate everyone to connect with our elderlies, making sure that no one feels alone and promoting a happy and loving holiday season.

Happy 4th of July from our team to you! As we gather to celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, let's not forget our furry companions! Here are some tips to keep your pets safe and calm during the festivities: 🎇 Create a Safe Space: Make sure your pets have a quiet, comfortable place to retreat away from the noise. 🐶 Keep Them Indoors: Fireworks can be frightening for pets. Keep them indoors and secure windows and doors. 🐱 Update ID Tags: Ensure your pets' ID tags and microchip information are up to date, just in case they get scared and run off. 🐾 Avoid Fireworks: Never use fireworks around pets. They can cause severe burns and trauma. 🎆 Watch the BBQ: Be mindful of what your pets eat. Certain foods can be harmful to them. Wishing everyone a safe and joyful 4th of July!
