At Tarleton's Inaugural First Gen. Summit, there was SO MUCH incredible learning! But, the HIGHLIGHT of my day, week, month, year.........more?! Meeting Dr. Dwain Mayfield and hearing the story of the United States Air Force coming to him and saying, "in two years, we need two airplanes, and they need to do things no airplane has ever done!" Can you imagine buying into his vision? What about those who are saying "this has never been done" and "this can't be done!" YET! He did it! I think of Dr. Linda Hill's "Collective Guniess" Book and how to lead innovation.

Their dedication and loyalty have been instrumental in propelling us forward and ensuring that we remain at the forefront of our industry. These individuals have consistently demonstrated expertise and precision in aerospace component manufacturing and engineering. Their time management skills are exemplary, allowing them to not only excel in their individual roles but also to lead, train, and educate others while embodying our core values of Value, Integrity, Leadership, Accountability, and Responsiveness. The team has played a pivotal role in our company's journey, from laying the groundwork during its inception to navigating through the complexities of growth in our industry. Last Week Tonight on HBO Max provides a lot of sharp insight on the problems of today's economic models. Over the last number of months host John Oliver has skewered McKinsey & Company and management #consulting, #supplychains in the #chocolate industry, labor practices in #dollarstores, #foodsafety scandals and more, as well as addressing many important political topics. The most recent episode, which aired last Sunday took on the root causes of all of the safety problems at #Boeing, whose 1997 merger with McDonnell Douglas led to the company being a poster child for the disastrous outcomes from prioritizing #shareholder value above all else. Some examples: 🌐 Boeing's headquarters move from Seattle to Chicago in 2001 was more than a geographical shift; it symbolized a detachment from the company's engineering roots. This relocation distanced top management from the day-to-day operations and the core of Boeing's manufacturing and engineering expertise. 📈 Such a move was consistent with the ideology of prioritizing immediate stock performance. One telling example is that from 2014 to 2018, Boeing diverted 92% of its operating cash flow to dividends and share buybacks to benefit investors, far exceeding the money it spent on R&D for new planes. No surprise there have been such technical issues with the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX. 💼 And it is another case of former #JackWelch underlings from GE destroying companies. Under Jim McNerney, CEO from 2003 to 2015, Boeing focused on cost-cutting and efficiency which significantly compromised longer-term innovation and labor relations. While he was able to juice stock price during his tenure, the massive problems the company faces today are directly related to this period. I take on similar themes in my forthcoming book #TheProfiteers, but in not nearly as amusing a way as John Oliver. If you have not seen this show before, you should take a look!
