In this "Ask and Answer" session, a health center wanted to know if they could use grant funding to purchase a van for health services and other community health outreach efforts. The vehicle would travel to hard-to-reach communities, such as areas that are very rural, more than 30 miles from the health center, and to districts with lower primary care use. Could they get a grant for this purpose? Find out our answer and next steps at https://lnkd.in/eNShNFCx. And then please let me know what you think in the comments

👉 National Public Health Week Spotlight: Today, BHPN would like to uplift Hennepin County Public Health Department. We had the opportunity to highlight the public health department’s Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) in our new public health primer which focuses on uplifting cross-sector partnerships that are working across sectors to advance health and racial equity. The coalition of partners prioritized the unique challenges that BIPOC communities often face and worked with communities to identify community-driven solutions that increased community engagement and involvement when planning and implementing programs to advance health and racial equity efforts. Learn more about how this program focused on community-level involvement and worked with various sectors to address disparities. https://ow.ly/617y50R7ZuM #NPHW #CrossSectorCollaboration #CommunityEngagement #RacialEquity #CommunityDrivenSolutions

A valuable forum reflecting on 50 years of the Australian community health program established by the Whitlam government. Learnings about the fate of community health in SA and NSW where there has been a lack of state government recognition and support. Lessons in demonstrating impact through routine data collection and evaluation to reverse this trend and strengthen the funding base Do we need evaluation evidence that is specific to community health. There’s a lot of evidence already out there about prevention and primary care. Do we need evidence of multidisciplinary care model via the community health platform to shift the political pressure on state gov to focus on hospital waiting lists?

I think this is a great idea for local governments. I do interim and as-needed municipal administration and wish the local governments I work with would invest in this. Too often I do not realize some of the issues/challenges of a local government until we are knee-deep in policy or budget development and we discover some issues with policy, budget, HR, and process issues, to name a few. This is especially true of local governments with few or no full-time staff where oftentimes operations, processes, and HR is left to the elected officials who sometimes apply a private sector lens to the public sector.
