Life begins at 40!

I am one of those oddballs who gets excited on a Sunday night about knowing I've got work the next day. Much to my other half's bafflement, I might add. And I thought this week would be a prime example of why. This week I have the pleasure of helping Bluebird Care define their employer brand, ODEON Cinemas Group develop their shiny new careers website, Lidl GB creatively launch their new EVP, the green light to support on a piece of work close to my heart (animal related!), all whilst finishing off judging some incredible (and numerous!) RMAward entries. And we're only halfway through the week. Yes there's a lot to do, no it's not always plain sailing, but it's bloomin' good fun and you know the work is having a positive impact. And yep I'm aware some is name-dropping in this post. But I'm proud of it. Proud to do what I do, to be part of a business that delivers exceptional work, and proud of the clients I get to work with. It gives Monday - Friday and beyond clear purpose. The point of this post (and of employer branding in general) is simply, I hope everyone can do something they love, and as the old cliché goes, it shouldn't then feel like work. What does celebrating success look like at your organisation? Do you have a real job? My Millennials shared a meme with us once which stated that if you can't describe your work in three words, you don't have a real job. Yesterday, in my last breakfast meeting as Host of CBL Oxford, I got to play this game to celebrate my 2nd anniversary in role and handing over to Aidan Salter, who I know is going to do a wonderful job. We wouldn't have had time if there hadn't been a hiccup with technology for our wonderful speaker, Jon Cox, at Courtyard by Marriott, Milton Gate. I demonstrated how I don't have a real job: Voice and Speech Coach = 4 FAIL! Keynote Speaker, Author, Trainer, Coach = 5 FAIL! We had much success and some failure as we sped around the room and it was a fun way to hear everyone's voice and a little about their work in under three minutes. Do you have a real job? But a good MC always sets their audience up for success by not being too impressive - I excel at this 😄)

Here are four ways we cultivate culture here at Sudburys! ·  Celebrating our work anniversary: This is a dedicated time to recognise the contributions of each team member. ·  We have 90-day reviews: A safe place to provide feedback and support and a place to talk about growth and development. ·  Weekly ½ hour team meetings: Time to align our goals for the week, communicate effectively, and ensure everyone feels heard and valued. ·  An annual team day: A day once a year dedicated to fostering camaraderie, relationship building, and where to from here.
