R e s e a r c h Arch_Manu [ARC Centre for Next-Gen Architectural Manufacturing], in collaboration with industry partners Architectus, Cox Architecture, Grimshaw, and Tzannes, and our office has launched its #hackathon program to develop solutions for critical challenges in the architecture and engineering industries. The inaugural Arch_Manu hackathon brought together participants from Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, as well as international locations including London, Frankfurt, Paris, and New York. The 20 participants representing both industry and academia were divided into four teams to explore the two chosen topics: Post-classification of BIM Elements and Digitising Kits of Rules. Our colleague Ljuba, who is Head of Design Technology at B G described the hack project as ‘not only a learning experience, but also a fusion of interdisciplinary expertise, leading to innovative concepts and fresh perspectives’. From B G side our colleagues Ljuba, Marc, and Alexander as experts from the B G Design Technology Group teamed up with the colleagues of Grimshaw London (Ivana Petrusevski, Hesham Shawqy, Shahrzad Fereidouni) to tackle the Challenge Digitising Kits of Rules. The second hackathon is to be expected towards the end of this year. Click here to stay updated: http://archmanu.com/ Photo: Arch_Manu

Everyone knows what innovation means, but ask ten people to offer a definition and you’ll get nearly as many versions. Technology will surely be a common thread since it has come to be almost synonymous with the “i” word, but its root—novus—means new, which is a much broader dragnet for architects when they think about making claims about their innovative design or processes. Architecture Exchange East (Nov. 1-3) has doubled down on what’s new about innovation with sessions about connectivity, technological or otherwise. Here are three takes on a contested word that you’ll want to check out if you’re also interested in doubling down on your firm’s future. Register at www.aiava.org #ArchEx2023

Hey there, future architect! 👋 Feeling the pressure to come up with the next 'groundbreaking' design? I get it. We're so conditioned to chase that big innovation, thinking and hoping it'll solve everything. But here's a wild thought: what if the real breakthrough isn't in fancy tech or flashy designs, but inside you? Yes, YOU. 🌟 True innovation in architecture isn't just about adding more stuff. Sometimes, it's about stripping things away and finding the essence. Doing more with less. Questioning why we do what we do and really connecting with the people and communities we're serving. Are you ready to move beyond the dopamine hit of novelty and dive deep into your own transformative work? To step out of the 'architecture box' and create not just buildings, but meaningful change? I've just dropped my first exploration on Substack called 'A Letter to the Architecture World: From External Solutions to Internal Revolutions.' → https://lnkd.in/gVtXV3kt Let's reshape architecture, starting with ourselves. 🚀 #architecturestudent #architecturelovers #LetsTalkArch #designwithpurpose #technologysolutions
