It was really nice to see Alex X Frommeyer this afternoon. Alex graduated from our department in 2011. Years back, when he attended the Speed School E-Expo as a keynote speaker, I was one of his audience. One question from the audience was "What you are doing now is not engineering related, do you think your engineering degree is helpful?" Alex answered that the training he received from the Speed School was very valuable. The Speed School taught him three things: critical thinking, teamwork, and time management, all were helpful to his success.
Engineering is hard. But after 4-5 years, these soft skills through engineering training as Alex mentioned can benefit your whole life wherever you go, whatever you do.
Interim Dean, College of Business, University of Louisville
Attending a fireside chat at the College of Business on entrepreneurship with UofL alum Alex Frommeyer who started his Beam Benefits company in Louisville about 10 years ago. Today the company has annual revenue of about $100 million with about 350 employees. Leading the chat is Tendai Charasika, a board member of the College of Business and a very successful entrepreneur himself. This Forcht Center for Entrepreneurship Center sponsored event is mesmerizing as Alex talks about idea formation, customer discovery, pitching ideas to investors, and growing the business. The journey has been so amazing that Harvard Business School wrote up his story as a business case.

Need new strategies to connect with your audience when planning events? Check out this example from Lansing Economic Area Partnership | LEAP and their upcoming One and All Alumni Mixer: Horror Stories of Entrepreneurship.
Why we love this idea and recommend incorporating a similar strategy as you plan your next event:
1). It relates to a topic that is important to their audience AND is a combination of educational and fun.
2), It ties into a relevant and timely occasion...Halloween! With Halloween seeing increased popularity in recent years, creating an event around the holiday is a great way to connect with new and existing audiences.
3). It stands out from other events. With its unique theme and eye-catching image, it is more likely to get noticed, get people excited and increase participation.
Great job LEAP and best of luck with the event this Thursday!

This Juneteenth, we want to take a moment to talk about LAUNCH’s origins. LAUNCH was formed to meet the growing need for diversity in the Entrepreneurial landscape. Despite making up over a third of the population in the Chattanooga area, African Americans own less than 2.2% of businesses. In order to close the gap in wealth between minority populations, giving African American entrepreneurs the tools they need to succeed is crucial. We have come a long way and we have a long way to go, but we’re excited to do the work and we look forward to seeing that percentage of business ownership climb! #entrepreneurship#juneteenth#smallbusiness
How do you get your real authentic story down on film in less than 30 seconds...
You get the Taking The Pixels boys in to work with you and your team - like Tom Gilpin did at Jemca Toyota 🙌
Together we created this video to promote women's football at a local level and sponsored by the dealership - a real win win 👏
Great working with the Cray Wanderers players, the local businesses and of course the dealership - being careful not to damage any of the cars in the process 😏

Did you know that last week was Global Entrepreneurship Week?
Its a great initiative, created in 2008, to encourage potential entrepreneurs, especially young people, to start their own businesses.
To mark the occasion, I was interviewed by my old school, Millfield School, to talk about my own entrepreneurial journey and how my time at school shaped who I am.
It was quite a trip down memory lane! Link to the article is in the comments below.
