I LOVE the Women in Tech SEO newsletter! If you're an SEO pro, Developer, or owner of a website that you want to rank on search engines like Google, you should definitely subscribe. #wtsnewsletter #seoexperts #developertips #websitetips
The Women in Tech SEO newsletter currently has 3,258 subscribers. My goal is to double it and grow to 6,000 subscribers by the end of the year. In the last month, we gained 293 additional contacts. This is the highest growth we've seen in a month. Here's my way of 'building in public' - these are 5 things I've recently done that helped ⬇️ 1️⃣ Added a question at the end of our Join Slack form, asking if folks wanted to subscribe to our newsletter. Almost everyone said 'Yes'. I have no idea why I didn't do this earlier! 2️⃣ Asked Aleyda Solís for some advice and tips. Who better to ask than the Queen of #SEOFOMO? Aleyda has written up a detailed post on newsletter tips that's super actionable. Link in the comments. 3️⃣ Chatted with Nick LeRoy who runs the #SEOForLunch newsletter and discovered that some people think the newsletter is only open to women. But it's not; it's open for everyone to subscribe! It made me realise that I need to rethink our messaging for it. 4️⃣ Made a big deal about reaching 3,000 subscribers on all channels and our community groups. It got a lot of love and amplification. Always celebrate your milestones publicly! 5️⃣ Added the Newsletter to our website navigation. Before, it was only linked in the footer, but now the landing page is also featured in the navigation - making it easier for people to know we have a newsletter when visiting our website. --- #WTSNewsletter is THE monthly newsletter that brings you the latest news from women in the SEO industry. We're celebrating Women in Tech SEO community members today -- sharing messages with each other in our #thanks channel on Slack for our 5 year #WTSAnniversary. A few really wonderful themes are emerging across these messages, including: 💪 Empowerment - thanking members who inspire through their own achievements/bravery and those who provide direct encouragement to take on new challenges. 🙌 Support & guidance - thanking people who offer personal and professional growth through mentorship, specific project advice, sharing opportunities and more. 🤝 Personal connections - thanking folks for meaningful conversations, those who have become friends along the way, and those who have an innate ability to make others feel welcomed, included, and safe to connect. Over my 8-months of time in the WTS community, I can definitely say these themes hit home with the ways I'm thankful for this lovely group of humans. ➡ I needed people to help me find my confidence to take on the new challenge of leaving 15-years of full-time work in larger companies to venture out on my own, into the freelance world. ➡ Then came the support and guidance to figure out how the heck I structure a sustainable living in freelance - which taught me that I wasn't actually "venturing out on my own." ➡ And I'm so thankful for the personal connections I've made through this community. My desire to learn more about myself, others, and the world around me has been exponentially increased by the meaningful conversations and the connections I've made within this safe space. 👋 So I'm going to head back into Slack and thank some of the many folks in the WTS Community that have helped me over the past 8-months. And if you find yourself in need of any of these community support systems - please come on over and see for yourself. It's free to join and we'd love to welcome you in. https://lnkd.in/dGPSr24x

Transcript [00:00:00] Josepha: Hello, everyone, and welcome to the WordPress Briefing, the podcast where you can catch quick explanations of the ideas behind the WordPress open source project, some insight into the community that supports it, and get a small list of big things coming up in the next two weeks. I’m your host, Josepha Haden Chomphosy. Here we go. [00:00:28] (Intro Music) [00:00:40] Josepha: A pivotal moment in my WordPress journey was when someone invited me to a WordCamp. I was sort of aware of WordPress, but certainly not aware of the community or the ways of open source. And when I look back, there were a few things I wish I had known going in. I am, of course, an unapologetic extrovert and therefore unstoppable at events, but if you are headed to your first WordCamp and are feeling a little nervous or confused, then pop in some earbuds because the next 10 minutes are for you. [00:01:11] Josepha: We’re going to first take a look at some basic tactical things about WordCamps, and then I’m going to tell you a few, like, human things about being a human going to events. If you’re a dog going to these events, I think that your prep is different, but also that is not my area of expertise. So the first thing, some tactical stuff about going to WordCamps. All of this happens before you even get in the front door. And so this is stuff that you can do in the comfort of your own home, on your own time, using your own computer. If you’ve got questions, you’ve got a search engine nearby to take some quick searches. Make sure you know what you’re talking about. But first things first, the shape of a WordCamp. All WordCamps have at least one day of talks, one social event, and sponsor...
