SSL Research* *Maruti Suzuki India Ltd 1QFY24 Result – Mixed Result* 1. Standalone Revenue/EBITDA/PAT up 22%/56%/145% YoY at Rs 32,327/Rs 2,983/Rs 2,485 cr. EBITDA margin at 9.2% vs 7.2% YoY. Gross margin improved 200bps YoY on back of decline in raw material costs. 2. Sales volume grew 6.4% YoY to 498,030 units. Passenger vehicle sales grew by 12.2% YoY outperforming the industry growth. *Key Takeaways of Conference Call* 1. *SUV Market share*: The company achieved 20% market share in the highly competitive SUV segment supported by strong product portfolio and new launches. MSIL has achieved leadership in the Rs10 lakh – Rs 20 lakh segement. 2. *CNG Vehicles*: MSIL launched the CNG version of its newly launched SUV Fronx in 1QFY24. It now has 15 models with factory fitted CNG powertrain. The company posted highest ever quarterly sales of CNG vehicles at 113,000 units with CNG Penetration increasing to ~27%. 3. *Order Backlog*: MSIL has an order backlog of 3,55,000 units as of 1QFY24. It faced a production shortfall of 28,000 units in 1QFY24 due to component shortage. Semiconductor availability continues to improve sequentially. The discount per vehicle has widened to Rs 16,214 vs Rs 12,748 YoY and Rs 13,069 QoQ. 4. *SMG Acquisition*: The board of MSIL has approved acquisition of 100% stake of Suzuki Motor Corp (SMC) in the Gujarat plant of SMG. SMG currently contract manufactures vehicles for MSIL. The deal contours will be announced after some time. Post this acquisition, the Gujarat plant will be owned by MSIL leading to increase in MSIL’s manufacturing capacity. The company intends to double its total production capacity to 4mn units by 2030-31. The proposed battery plant will remain with Suzuki Motor. *View: The company reported a mixed set of results with EBITDA margin missing estimates on back of higher discounts and increase in ad spends. Raw material prices have stabilized but still continue to be at elevated levels. At CMP, the stock trades at 27.3x FY24E/ 23.4x FY25E earnings. We expect the stock to trade sideways till the details of the deal are finalized.* #Maruti
