Time and time again, research has shown that shorter work weeks (summer Fridays or 4-day work weeks) are good for planet, people, and profit as they help to decrease burnout, reduce stress, increase engagement, and reduce carbon emissions. We saw an immediate return when we implemented Summer Fridays at Justice Informed. We used the time to be with our loved ones, finally go for a run, sleep, garden, or work on our novel drafts. We were happier and rejuvenated. Summer Fridays and flexible hours are more than a retention strategy; they are a real way to address inequity among those who often bear the burden of invisible, unpaid labor outside the workplace. Women do 21 hours more unpaid work than men a week, often at the compromise of their mental health. People of color, women, and people with disabilities are all more likely to report wanting control over their hours than their peers. Simply offering the hours is not enough; workplaces must also change their culture. When managers work through these hours, or workplaces praise those who keep working past hours, individuals face more stress. Summer Fridays allow us to evaluate work and leisure not through the lens of earned time off or a perk, but through an understanding that people matter. Control over your own time is how people build community and engage with their jobs and society. Just as PTO is not to take time off to produce more, Summer Fridays are not a way to give people time to rest; it’s about giving them time to live. What would you do with your extra time? #SummerFridays #Equity #DEI #People

Employees love their summertime benefits, but 66% say they don't get any summertime benefits from employers. These benefits include summer Fridays, four-day workweeks, or flexible dress codes. Your industry may be unable to reduce hours or loosen the dress code. As a best practice, evaluate your business and what makes the most sense. You could also ask employees what they prefer in a survey and decide based on the results. #EmployeeBenefits #FlexibleWorking #WorkLifeBalance #Productivity #HappinessAtWork https://lnkd.in/g5zC9b7N
