Hi LinkedIn, I’m Shuayb, a former NHS radiographer turned Software Engineer generating over 6-figures online, now helping others break into tech so they can take control of their financial destiny. Here is my story.👇🏾 Like many I followed the path of going to university to get the ‘fancy’ degree in order to land the ‘good job’ at the end of it. For me, a light bulb went on when I heard two senior team members express their paycheck-to-paycheck struggles, which made me pause and reassess my own aspirations. Was I destined for the same cycle, or could I carve a different path - one filled with purpose and personal freedom? If you're wondering about the conversation I overheard, it went along the lines of: Person A: How was your weekend? Person B: Urgh, honestly, I’m just crawling to payday. That moment was pivotal for me. Why? Because I thought to myself, is that where I want to be in a few years time? 🤔 I questioned whether I wanted to follow a similar path or strive for something more fulfilling while also being financially compensated well. Upon this realisation, I continued with my degree out of personal commitment and a desire to make my parents proud. After graduation, I secured a job in Cheltenham, England, but my desire to pivot into the tech industry persisted. ⏩Fast forward through late nights of coding, countless online tutorials, and nerve-wracking job interviews - I found my breakthrough. Landing a role in tech wasn't just a career milestone; it was a testament to my persistence and self-belief. It showed me that I was capable of anything if I just put my mind to it. I now have the location and financial freedom to do whatever I want. I started to share my journey on X (I still call it Twitter), where I built a loyal, engaged community of over 8,000 followers. The incredible support I’ve received along the way is the reason why I now run my own online bootcamp helping others break into tech and craft their own success stories. How to solve churn in your community before it becomes a problem: 👇 Investigate why people leave. You probably put a lot of time and care into your onboarding process. Don’t neglect to put the same care into offboarding members when they leave. Automated surveys and one-on-one exit interviews help you flag potential issues before they become big problems. ❓Did the member leave because of a change in their personal situation? Not a problem. ❓Did they leave because the community was no longer filling their needs? Potential problem. Your members’ needs and expectations may evolve over time, and your community needs to evolve with them. Get curious about why people leave. Keep an ear out for frustration in community conversations. Identify those patterns early and you can adapt to keep your members happy and your community vibrant. I get a lot of stick about #hookytrackrecord The thing is....clients shouldn't need to hire people with poor track records. They end up doing it because they're lazy and default to "I need someone from my market." and they don't have the skill to hire for skill. What do I class as a hookytrackrecord? More than 3 employers in 6 years. Yes, loads of people will say: -'it was the pandemic.' Well, the pandemic fuelled the biggest surge for the IT industry I've ever witnessed -'I got made redundant'. Once, okay. Twice, that's bad luck. Three times.....come on -'I just kept getting massive payrises way beyond mu skill level'. No one has ever actually said that....... The simple reality is that if you're hitting target, earning your OTE you are much, much less likely to change jobs. Most of the time, people move jobs because they're under target. It's that simple.
