Our population is increasing but the land bank isn't. Melbournians are all too aware of how important open space is to the well-being of the mind, body and community. Today marks the first day of Parks Week 2024. Let's start this week long focus with a reminder that not all people’s access to quality open space across Melbourne is equal. The State Government's Open Space for Everyone strategy aims to create a more connected network across the city by improving access to existing spaces and creating new ones. The team at DEECA presented to the AILA VIC public practice forum yesterday on the work that is currently underway to develop a new Guide for Open Space Strategies (GOSS). A state wide strategy which will operationalise Open Space for Everyone, and review and reform existing resources, including Practice Note 70. The GOSS will address gaps in the current resource, such as self-determination and the impacts of climate change. Watch this space as the GOSS comes together and drives not just the provision, but also the quality of spaces and resources to deliver and maintain a fundamental asset for sustainable future communities. #parksweek2024 #landscapearchitecture image: Lake Elizabeth, Great Otway National Park

Project Manager Smart City - Public Sector @Bouygues Energies & Services | PMI | NovaTalent | INSA Lyon
Watching Amanda Burden's TED Talk made me really think about : The Vital Role of Public Spaces 🌳 So here are some insights I wanted to share. Cities are more than just buildings and roads; they are living, breathing entities shaped by the experiences of those who inhabit them. One often underestimated but crucial element that breathes life into our urban landscapes is the presence of vibrant public spaces. 🌿 Green Oases in the Urban Jungle 🏞️ Public parks and green spaces are the lungs of our cities, providing a breath of fresh air amidst the hustle and bustle. They serve as havens for relaxation, exercise, and connection, fostering both physical and mental well-being. Investing in and preserving these green oases is an investment in the health of our communities. 🛍️ Catalysts for Community Interaction 👫 From bustling marketplaces to cozy cafes, public spaces act as magnets for community interaction. They create a sense of belonging, enabling people from diverse backgrounds to come together, share ideas, and build bonds. These interactions are the threads weaving the fabric of a strong, connected society. 🚶♂️ Promoting Walkability and Accessibility 🚴♀️ Well-designed public spaces encourage walking and cycling, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable urban lifestyle. By prioritizing accessibility, we ensure that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can enjoy the benefits of these spaces. This inclusivity is a cornerstone of a truly thriving city. 🌇 Economic Engines and Cultural Hubs 🎭 Public spaces are not just places to unwind; they are economic engines and cultural hubs. Vibrant squares and plazas attract businesses, events, and artistic performances, injecting life and vitality into the cityscape. This, in turn, attracts visitors, boosting local economies and fostering a rich cultural tapestry. As we envision the future of our cities, let's recognize the invaluable role that public spaces play. By prioritizing and investing in these communal areas, we not only enhance the quality of urban life but also build resilient, inclusive, and thriving communities. 🌍✨ #UrbanPlanning #CommunityBuilding #PublicSpaces #CityLife

Heat Neutralizer 🔥 Blocking heat for 35 years with insulation coatings for energy savings, reduce CO2, CUI, UHI & cooler, safer spaces. Cool roofs to hot pipes to fire protection with Super Therm® & HPC®.
Awesome seeing more and more organisations globally identifying cool surfaces make resilient cities. • Improve health, air quality and strengthen local economies • Reduce peak summer temperatures by 5F • Reduce energy demand and cut energy bills • Reduce flooding and resulting mould Solar heat reflective paints try to reflect the visible spectrum of sunlight while clean (44%), also blocking the infrared radiation (53%) is critical to the full success of a cool roof insulation coating. Most don’t can’t do this so rely on SRI and being as white as possible. Find out more about Super Therm that blocks 99.5% of the infrared and 96.1% total solar. The original Heat Neutralizer Ceramics Thermal Insulation Coating developed since 1989, Super Therm : https://lnkd.in/g3bWKiNf #CoolRoofs #NetZeroEmissions #HeatReflectivePaint #EnergyReduction #UrbanHeatIslands #InsulationCoatings #SuperTherm #RetrofitAustralia #HeatNeutralizer
We’re proud to be part of the Smart Surfaces Coalition, a group of more than 40 organizations dedicated to creating cooler, healthier and more resilient cities. Alongside the National League of Cities, the American Public Health Association, WE ACT for Environmental Justice, The American Institute of Architects (AIA), World Resources Institute, and other partners, we’re working with a growing list of mayors and city officials who are investing in the residents’ health and well-being. Through transforming urban surfaces — reflective (cool) roofs and pavements, green roofs, trees, solar PV, rain gardens and more — cities can reduce sweltering summer peak temperatures, cut energy demand and utility bills, and improve air quality and public health. These are a no-brainer, integrated solution that can reduce citywide summer temperatures by 5°F while tackling structural inequities that hurt communities of color, helping families cut energy bills and saving cities billions of dollars. It’s a win-win for all. Read more. https://lnkd.in/ekHmz2Xi
