Happy #SummerLearning Week! Our 2024 Summer Boost program serves students from approximately 450 public charter schools across 7 U.S. cities to combat learning loss exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. A recent national study assessed the effectiveness of summer learning in bridging post-pandemic learning gaps. On average, the study found that Summer Boost recovered approximately 31% of Covid-related learning loss in math and approximately 22% of Covid-related learning loss in ELA. Relative to their non-Summer Boost peers, students gained on average an additional 4 to 5 weeks of learning in math and an additional 3 to 4 weeks of English Language Arts learning.

Both the guide and BTPEs emphasize the value of students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds in teaching strategies and creating an inclusive learning environment. They also advocate for the adoption of innovative teaching methods, such as guided reading and workshop models, to enhance bilingual teaching methodologies. Both highlight the importance of fostering school-home partnerships and engaging families and communities in education. They recognize the vital role of families and communities in student success. The guide and BTPEs emphasize the significance of investing in professional development for educators to continuously enhance their teaching skills in bilingual settings. They advocate for the use of culturally relevant assessment strategies to support the progress of bilingual learners.

Public School teacher FCT|English Language Teacher| Youth Advisor on Eduaction at Netherlands Embassy, Abuja| Class/Form Mistress | Appointed Mentor at Government Secondary School, Abuja
I was talking with a friend sometimes ago about how some of my students wish to be like me and then dropping their own dreams to be my prototype. I told her how I redirect their vision and discourage them from being EXACTLY like me. They should chase their dreams and maintain their originality. She was surprised. She said I shouldn't do that that they will soon snap out of it. She said "let children be children." I looked at the message and smiled. I know that the world has gone beyond let children be children. Besides, I deal with teenagers daily. I make it a point to talk with each classroom about "Unleashing their potentials." The world has gone beyond teenagers sitting idly and being children. It is not too early to fire them up and direct them to have visions and goals. If the coming generation will take the lead in years to come, then I know I shouldn't just teach English Language in my classrooms. I teach them LIFE alongside. Dear secondary school teacher, your teenage students need to learn life from you. Let them climb on your shoulders to see the world. Unleash their potentials! Talk about their vision. No, you are not rushing them, you are only teaching them to also move faster in a fast paced world. #publicschool #secondaryschool #secondaryeducation #education
