BlocPower's first ever National Community Advisory Board (CAB) Virtual Summit was held on May 18th, and it was a huge success! The event brought together BlocPower CAB members from across the country, fostering connections, sharing insights, and strengthening our collective commitment to decarbonizing buildings in low to moderate income neighborhoods. Representatives from each city had the opportunity to highlight their achievements, and participants engaged in productive discussions on how electrification can meet the unique needs of their communities. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable, and everyone left feeling inspired and empowered to continue building smarter, greener, healthier communities. We're incredibly grateful for the dedication and shared vision of our CAB members, and for Caitlin Benedict and Adrien Horton — two of our Clean Energy Project Associates — on all of their hard work in making the summit a success.

I appreciate that we are saying that we have strategic initiatives and goals, are working towards achieving those goals, and making it public exactly how we are doing that. Check out our first impact report!
Check out our latest CADES Impact Report; https://lnkd.in/eWX4jpxU! In addition to our Core Values of Respect, Trust, and Growth, we value transparency and accountability, and our impact report provides a window into the work we do. In our report you will see our Strategic Initiatives and the progress we have made, including the dozens of community partnerships we have made through our transition program and our Adult Day Program in Aston, the work we have done as an organization in celebrating our diversity, the exploration of technology like the eye-gaze power wheelchair, and the deepening ties between our organization and one of our local communities. And we will continue to provide this access when we publish our next report in July, and publish three reports per year!

More than $285 million will deliver great places and spaces for communities across Queensland’s booming south-east corner. The SEQ Liveability Fund is one of the key projects being delivered under the $1.8 billion SEQ City Deal, a partnership between the Australian Government, the Queensland Government and Council of Mayors (SEQ). The pool of funding is now open to eligible local governments to deliver projects that will help build healthier, liveable and more inclusive, connected communities. That includes new parks and projects that promote health and wellbeing, as well as community infrastructure that complements new housing supply or urban renewal. Councils can also apply for funding for regional sporting and recreation facilities to drive engagement in local sport in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. https://lnkd.in/eKTpUV5u

Yesterday, our team had the privilege of attending the live session "Bootcamp for Domestic Energy Advice – Winter 23/24" organised by the National Energy Action (NEA), the premier energy efficiency and fuel poverty charity in the UK. For those unaware, over five million UK households live in fuel poverty, a number that underscores the vital importance of NEA's work. Here are some key takeaways from the enlightening sessions: 🔹 Energy Saving Measures: The initial session provided a comprehensive overview of practical energy-saving measures. The spectrum of ideas presented was impressive, from the usual energy conservation tips to lifestyle suggestions such as batch cooking and investing in blankets. 🔹 Funding Options for England & Wales: Navigating the labyrinth of funding options is, as we've always known, intricate. With numerous paths available through ECO4, local authorities, and various other bodies, the provision is heavily influenced by individual circumstances and the state of the property. It's a nuanced landscape, making a one-size-fits-all guide challenging, but the knowledge we've gained will certainly help in our advisory roles. 🔹 Retrofit Assessment Need: With the introduction of ECO4 and potentially the Great British Insulation Scheme, the emphasis on retrofit assessment is clearer than ever. As a community, we're now tasked with deciding how we'll tackle this. For those eager to dive deeper into the sessions and gain insights firsthand, you can catch the full event here: https://lnkd.in/eSgEk4Dc A big shoutout to the NEA for hosting this invaluable boot camp and Grant Fairbairn, Paul Nichol and Beth Robbie for attending on behalf of ThermaFY Group. As we continue our journey in energy advocacy, such opportunities to learn and engage are invaluable to our team!

CEO JABBS Foundation improving lives for women and girls | Previously Assistant Police & Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands & Lawyer
Over the weekend I had the pleasure of Chairing a panel at the Coop Congress run by Cooperatives UK. There’s such a diversity of efforts going on across the country: ✅collective action to demand better from public bodies - seeking to tackle cultures of institutional defensiveness (eg Post Office scandal) rather than authorities opening up dynamically to work with communities to problem solve ✅community share initiative successes (eg renewable energy) - seeing communities own their own clean energy projects and reinvest surpluses back into other local services ✅cooperative partnerships with local Gov to open up social enterprise possibilities - by councils taking a convening role, new cooperatives enterprises and cultures have flourished, bringing with them economic benefits that improve the lives of workers and communities ✅empowering underrepresented groups for community ownership - efforts to ensure the benefits of cooperative enterprises or community share offers are not the preserve of privileged communities.💯🙏 #cooperatives #renewableenergy #greenindustries #partnerships #collaboration #publicservices #communityshares #equity
