We are deeply saddened to share the news that Alfred (Al) R. Ghelfi, the pioneering founder and force behind Cavco Industries, passed away Saturday morning, June 1, 2024, at the age of 84. Al’s entrepreneurial spirit and vision took a small business venture between two 25-year-old friends in 1965 — selling truck campers and travel trailers out of a Phoenix lumber yard — and grew it into what eventually became one of the largest, most successful builders and retailers of manufactured homes in the U.S.    Al was known for always treating his customers, employees and shareholders right. Despite the company’s growth and success, he never lost his sense of humility, maintaining a simple lifestyle and honest attitude.    Al’s singular goal was to build quality, affordable homes, a legacy that Cavco continues today, from our team members on the factory floor to retail salespersons finalizing a sale.  Every day, we keep Al’s legacy alive by providing people with the opportunity to afford a quality home where they can build a life. 

The offsite built housing industry has been debunking myths and harmful stereotypes since the early 70s. But today, with home prices and interest rates sitting at record highs across the country, many are taking a second look at offsite housing and are shocked when they find out that the doublewides of yesterday can't hold a candle to the quality and value of what's available today. #offsitehomes #manufacturedhomes #construction #affordablehousing
