Happy #NationalInternDay! Does your company hire interns? Check out this list of the top 50 internship programs in the United States. Note that most of the best ones PAY their interns! While some industries still rely on unpaid interns as the norm, research from the Strada Education Foundation shows that students with paid internship experience are more likely to graduate from college with well-paying full-time job offers in hand. Those with unpaid experience (or hourly jobs that they worked in order to support themselves through college) are more likely to be under-employed when they graduate. What’s more, women and people of color are more likely to participate in unpaid internships than their white male counterparts, leading to a negative effect on income earning potential in the long term. If your company hires interns, how can you advocate to compensate them for their time and effort? Interns are NOT stop gap solutions to full time positions. Just came across this post where these guys expect interns to understand product, content, product management, marketing, GTMs, 'jacks of many trades', work directly with th founders on absolutely anything with an 'intrapreneurial attitude' and then offer 3-5k for part time to full time internships. Bro wifi bill is about 2k. Electricity another 2k. 1k for a months work, full time? Stop lowballing, stop looking for stop gaps. Hire interns to help interns grow too, not just squeeze as much work as you can out of them in exchange for chump change and a meaningless certificate. Disgusting. #Ethics #BeHuman #WorkCulture

We hired a team of 12 interns last year in 2 weeks and here's what happened 😓 While building the New Initiatives & Growth Team at GrowthSchool, we didn't know who to look for & hire. Because we wanted core generalists who could pick projects & get things done. So, we decided to go with a different approach. Instead of looking for ready-to-join people, we tried finding folks who are incredibly high intent, willing to learn, adapt, and are right out of college who can be molded into high-quality generalists. We opened up a 6-Month New Initiatives Internship Program where we put people into high-impact projects & high-pressure situations built perfectly for roles we needed in our team. Of 12 people we hired, 3 left within a week, because it was unlike anything they had ever done 😅 But the folks who persevered and put in their all - 🚀 5 got converted into full-time members, 💥 2 are still in college and completing their tenure, 💭 2 of them learned, left, and went on their own paths. Well, we are opening up the internship program again after a year!
