Walter Copan, Vice President of Mines Office of Research & Technology Transfer represented Colorado School of Mines at the recent Future of Challenge-Driven Partnerships conference at University of Cambridge. The conference focused on answering the question, “What needs to be done to enable multi-stakeholder partnerships involving universities to significantly accelerate the development of breakthrough innovations aimed at tackling urgent and complex grand challenges?” This is a timely and important question because many current and emerging challenge-focused initiatives are large-scale and require teams that include academic, government, and industry collaboration to take on the world’s critical challenges. #InnovationWithImpact

𝗜𝗖𝗗𝗘 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯: 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗮, 𝟲-𝟭𝟬 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 Will you be attending the ICDE World Conference 2023? The Humanitarian Leadership Academy's Global Communities and Partnerships Lead Esther Grieder will be there to discuss open recognition with Stella Porto from Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and Dominic Orr from atingi.org / Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. They’ll discuss their hopes and dreams for what open recognition could achieve in their respective sectors, what's worked so far, and the obstacles they face. Esther Grieder says: "Open recognition is the idea that we gain valuable skills and experience throughout life, not just through academic study, and that there should be better systems in place to articulate these skills and communicate them to employers and society at large. It’s a particularly interesting concept for the humanitarian sector, where many of the most valuable, practical skills are held by volunteers or community members working on the frontline, but are not formally recognised, and where learning is by necessity ongoing, adapting to changing circumstances and needs." If you are attending ICDE this year, Esther and her fellow speakers would love to see you there! Hi community, I'll be presenting at the Visitor Studies Association's Annual Conference on July 18th in St. Paul, MN (the stolen lands of the Dakota people). The talk is titled "Redefine Visitor Studies Using Community Voice: A Creative Evaluation Story." I'll share about the Creative Evaluation & Engagement (CE&E) approach, how it works in practice, and how we integrate arts-based methods into the process. I will also briefly touch on how this work mirrors Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), and how CBPR pairs well with CE&E. I was supposed to give this talk with Sully Moreno, but Sully won't be able to join us IRL. Perhaps, like we did for AEA, we will offer a virtual session for those who aren't attending VSA. Is there interest? Let me know in the comment section! I am also reminded that this is not my first time presenting at VSA. In 2021, Anna Rebecca "AR" Lopez and I led a presentation titled "Centering Community: A Radical Discussion for Change in Visitor Research," which touched on #communitycentricfundraising and #evaluation. <3
