Designing and implementing high impact, professional mentoring programmes focused on leadership, talent development and diversity. CEO and Founder of KMP House of Mentoring ApS.
Are you focused on doing Promotable Tasks in your job? In the mentoring programme at Women in Life Science Denmark we have recently held an online workshop for the mentees and one of the topics was identifying Promotable Tasks and Non-Promotable Tasks to become more aware of how we are investing our time. If you are doing too many Non-Promotable tasks, you may be well liked by your colleagues, but you may also be reducing your chances of being promoted and moving ahead in your career. In this workshop, we also identified a third category of tasks: the Demotable Tasks – those are tasks that may cause you to be demoted instead of promoted. This could be from participating in risky projects with high risk of failure which then fail or participating in projects with a reputation of cutting corners. Find yourself a copy of the book “The No Club” and consider how you are investing your time. Lone Veng Pernille Winding Gojkovic Lene Gerlach #mentoringmatters

Recap Sunday 👩🏽💻 Shifting the Paradigm on Empowerment The month of June holds deep significance in South Africa's history. Recognized as Youth Month, it culminates on the 16th with Youth Day, commemorating the brave youth of 1976 whose activism and determination brought about a transformative change in the education system. This historic struggle serves as a powerful inspiration for me, Makgotso Lebajoa, to shape the future I envision—one where the girl child is never left behind in education and is equipped with life-transforming skills. Coming from a previously disadvantaged background, I understand firsthand the immense challenges the girl child faces in climbing from the valley to the peak, especially in the corporate world. My personal journey has shown me that the only bridge to opportunity is education and mentorship—drivers of knowledge. Knowledge holds the promise we need to progress. In line with shifting the paradigm on empowerment, as June began, I had the privilege of participating in the Expertise Alliance Programme powered by Imperial Key Africa as a mentor to four young women pursuing careers in IT within the financial services sector. The program aims to equip mentees with the knowledge needed to transition from college or university into the corporate world. I was fortunate to have the assistance of Ms. Umpha Matshepete and Ms. Tshilidzi Mphadzha whose invaluable insights and experiences significantly contributed to the success of our mentorship program. The four mentees I mentored were women I met at various conferences and within the industry. After connecting with them, they reached out to me, seeking mentorship. The mentorship program incorporated various resources, including personalized learning paths, skills assessments, and community support. These tools enabled the mentees to develop their technical and soft skills, preparing them for the demands of the corporate world. I am particularly pleased with the feedback and testimonies from two of the mentees who joined the program while unemployed; they managed to secure employment through opportunities that arose during the mentorship program. This experience underscores the critical need for mentorship. Like Nelson Mandela, I believe that as individuals, we should champion the cause of investing in people through education and upskilling. I am passionate about driving the change I want to see in the world. Through education and mentorship, we can bridge gaps, create opportunities, and foster a future where every girl child can reach her full potential. By shifting the paradigm on empowerment, we can ensure that the legacy of the youth of 1976 continues to inspire and drive meaningful change in our society. #Reflections #Mentorship #Mentoring #Mentor #YouthMonth #June #Passion

What a great concept - and certainly chimes with our views around inclusivity, diversity and their benefits to the workplace. But also the benefits to early careers and graduate schemes, and the role mentors and buddy systems can play. Especially when they are open and two way. Connecting people and allowing learning in both directions. #diversity #inclusion #earlycareers #mentoring

Inspiring inclusion is the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day. The power and positive impact of inclusion is evident everywhere you look, and everyone has a part to play in uplifting women to create a stronger, thriving construction industry. BCITO is committed to providing more opportunities for women in the sector, challenging stereotypes and addressing myths about the capability of women in trade-based work. Caitlin Simpson started her BCITO apprenticeship with Graft Joinery in 2020 and is dispelling the old-school narratives by making the industry her own. She’s enthusiastic about her experience with a company that’s walking the talk on inclusion, led by boss Craig van Velden. “Craig has always been so supportive of me; he made sure that I have a voice in the industry. He sees all of his employees as his equals, no matter what. And throughout my journey with BCITO, I’ve met so many great people. No one in the BCITO community has been discriminatory towards me because of my gender. They have always been so supportive and encouraging of women entering the industry,” says Caitlin. Aotearoa New Zealand needs more women with a passion for the trades to upskill and grow their knowledge to create much-needed quality homes and infrastructure.
