India’s pilot shortage is a scary situation. But, Air India seems to have got a plan 🙌🙌 Here’s all you should know! .. The number of domestic passengers carried by Indian airlines doubled from FY13 to FY23. 🔆 And the number is widely expected to further double by FY30 itself 🔆 This growth will be supported by a two-fold jump in aircraft operated by Indian carriers by that time, from ~700 now to a little over 1.4k by then 🔆 And this will lead to a massive jump in the number of pilots and crews needed That means, in the end, if there is a talent shortage, everything could turn into a big mayhem! .. Now, where is the problem? 🔆 Well, whenever we talk of pilot shortage in India, we generally talk about it concerning the shortage right now 🔆 The real problem is that the gap between the need and availability of pilots is only going to worsen in the coming years And that’s an area which no one mostly talks about, except the senior folks at different airlines. .. This is exactly where the latest good news comes in. With a massive expansion of fleet underway, Air India is finalising two joint ventures for building pilot training schools. And each one is going to be a massive deal. .. The first one is for Airbus aircraft. 🔆 Air India is almost set to announce a Rs 3.5k crore 50:50 JV with Airbus 🔆 Once built to full capacity, their pilot training center will be the largest in all of South Asia, including China 🔆 For perspective, it will house 20 simulators, which is way higher than India largest player CSTPL (a JV of IndiGo) with 8 simulators .. The second one is for Boeing birds. 🔆 Air India is in talks to build another such JV with US-based L3Harris Commercial Aviation 🔆 It has deployed former AirAsia CEO Sunil Bhaskaran to get this going 🔆 This one will train pilots on Boeing’s aircraft .. With Air India setting up these new JVs for pilot training, and IndiGo’s JV CSTPL gearing to add 5 more simulators to its present set of 8, Indian aviation could see a big improvement in pilot supply a few years down the line. And that’s great news for the broader Indian civil aviation. What do you think? .. Archer Aviation, set to launch air taxis in the UAE next year, has announced a significant step towards this goal by recruiting and training pilots for its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This initiative brings the company closer to making air taxi operations a reality in the region. Partnership with Etihad Aviation Training The US-based Archer Aviation has partnered with Abu Dhabi's Etihad Aviation Training (EAT) to identify and train prospective pilots for its Midnight aircraft. EAT, renowned for its comprehensive training courses for airport, pilot, and cabin crew staff, lists major carriers such as Etihad Airways, Wizz Air, AirArabia, flydubai, and Oman Air among its industry partners and customers. Significant Investments and Infrastructure Development In April, Archer Aviation secured multi-hundred-million dollar investments from Abu Dhabi aimed at manufacturing the Midnight aircraft in the UAE and establishing its international headquarters in the Emirates. These investments also support the construction of vertiports in key locations across Abu Dhabi, accelerating the launch of commercial air taxi operations next year. Efficiency and Innovation with the Midnight Aircraft Archer’s Midnight aircraft promises to revolutionise urban travel by reducing commute times from 60-90 minutes by car to just 10-20 minutes via electric air taxi. Designed as a piloted, four-passenger aircraft, the Midnight is capable of rapid back-to-back flights with minimal charge time between journeys. Local Expertise and Regulatory Compliance EAT will provide local expertise and guidance to ensure that pilot training meets the standards set by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and other local authorities in the UAE. This collaboration aims to establish robust training requirements for the new fleet of eVTOL pilots. Statements from Leadership Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer at Archer Aviation, emphasised the importance of pilot training for the success of the urban air mobility network in the UAE. "Training a fleet of pilots to operate our aircraft is a critically important part of our efforts to establish a thriving urban air mobility network in Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We will commence a thoughtful recruiting process and begin to train the first class of qualified pilots to operate Archer’s Midnight aircraft for commercial operations within the region,” he said. Captain Paolo La Cava, CEO of Etihad Training, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Archer Aviation. “We couldn’t be more excited to choose Archer as our first eVTOL partner to recruit and train the first class of electric air taxi pilots to fly Archer’s Midnight aircraft right here in Abu Dhabi as soon as 2025. We look forward to installing the Archer Midnight flight simulator in our facilities later this year,” he stated. #celebrity #bollywood #wealth #couple #moviestars #aishwaryrai #AbhishekBachchan

Joby Aviation has formally applied for type certification of its eVTOL aircraft in Australia. Built upon a bi-lateral agreement between the Federal Aviation Administration and Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), the application, if completed successfully, will form the basis for commercial operations of Joby’s air taxi in the country. JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby, said: “With commercial powered-lift operations already considered in CASA’s regulatory frameworks, we’re pleased to be working with Australian authorities using a regulatory path to market that is actively being pursued by numerous countries around the world.” Australian vertiport developer Skyportz® has welcomed today’s announcement. Melbourne was earmarked for early air taxi operations by Uber Elevate five years ago when it added the city to Dallas and LA for proposed launch services. “In Australia there is strong policy support for the development of AAM from our safety regulator, CASA, our Federal and State Governments,” said Clem Newton-Brown OAM, CEO of Skyportz. “What we have been missing since the departure of Uber Elevate is a serious commitment from any of the leading electric air taxi operators to enter our market, through local certification. This announcement by industry leader, Joby, is very exciting for the emerging local ecosystem.” Read the full article on our blog for more information. #AvfoilNews #JobyAviation #eVTOL #AirTaxi #UrbanAirMobility #AAM #AdvancedAirMobility #CASA #FAACertification #Skyportz #Melbourne #Australia #AviationInnovation #ElectricAviation #SustainableAviation #FlightCertification #UberElevate #ElevateOS #AirMobility #Aerospace #AviationNews #ElectricFlight

Archer Aviation receives FAA certification to begin commercial air taxi operations “One week after sharing plans to bring commercial eVTOL operations to South Korea, advanced air mobility developer Archer Aviation is touting a key milestone in the US. The eVTOL air taxi manufacturer has received Part 135 certification from the FAA – a vital certificate to begin commercial flights – and Archer is now one of two air taxi companies worldwide to confirm the receipt of one. Archer Aviation is a Santa Clara, California-based eVTOL developer that continues to pepper the public with milestones reached in both its native US and around the world. During a Q2 2023 call with investors last summer, Archer reported that its flagship Midnight eVTOL aircraft had received a Special Airworthiness Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration. This means the aircraft has met all FAA safety requirements and can begin flight tests. With (special) airworthiness certification from the FAA already in place and investments from big names like United Airlines, Stellantis and even the US Air Force, Archer has also begun expanding to new regions around the globe in recent years. In the fall of 2023, Archer announced plans to launch eVTOL air taxi services across the United Arab Emirates. This was followed by a deal to bring air taxi operations to India and bolstered plans in the UAE in a new deal worth an estimated $500 million. Just last week, Archer announced a new partnership with KaKaoMobility in South Korea to begin commercial eVTOL air taxi operations in the country by 2026. While those international expansions continue, Archer has moved one step closer to commercial eVTOL air taxi operations in the United States thanks to a new FAA certification. Archer Air is FAA certified, but its Midnight air taxi isn’t yet Archer Aviation detailed exactly what its latest FAA certification means for the sustainable air mobility developer. The company’s airline subsidiary, Archer Air, has received its Part 135 Air Carrier & Operator Certificate from the FAA, enabling it to begin operating aircraft commercially. Per the release: The Part 135 certificate signals that Archer Air has developed, and demonstrated to the FAA its adherence to, the necessary policies and procedures to begin operating aircraft commercially in accordance with the stringent safety and operational standards set forth by the FAA. Today’s achievement is another key step that demonstrates Archer’s work with the FAA continues to gain momentum as Archer is now one of two air taxi manufacturers in the world to have announced receipt of a Part 135 certificate from the FAA. While Archer Air is now certified for commercial operations, its Midnight eVTOL is not. Archer is still seeking Type certification for its eVTOL air taxi aircraft and said now that its Part 135 is in place”…continues https://lnkd.in/g3pmikGJ

Absolutely wonderful to see VTOL finally happening; could be future of aviation…. In my little experience of aircraft engine design; i always thought of the take offs and landings; plus Airports consume a lot of space and are extremely inefficient in terms of customer experience and management… with VTOL, hopefully long range aircrafts too, every city can have multiple airports and low cost infrastructure for movement. Plus saving fuel.
IndiGo Airlines’ parent IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) will launch electric air taxi services in India by 2026👇 The airlines’ parent is in the final stages of signing a joint venture (JV) with US-based Archer Aviation to deploy 200 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircrafts that can carry up to four passengers “just like helicopters”. The deal is expected to cost IndiGo around $1 Bn, as per the report. It is pertinent to note that the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last year to launch and operate electric air taxi service in the country. Initially, the service is expected to ferry passengers from Connaught Place (CP) in the national capital to Haryana’s Gurugram in under seven minutes.
