We are glad to welcome two talented and promising Academic Fellows. Here’s more about their remarkable contributions to the field of design. Akshaya Manoj is a designer inclined to explore more into how design can impact social sectors. She has pursued Bachelor of design in Textile design from NIFT Kannur and Master of Design, specializing in Design Strategy from NIFT Gandhinagar. She has been keenly interested in the handloom and handicraft sector of India. She was introduced to this sector during her UG in NIFT Kannur. Throughout the four-year multiple small projects have been linked to handloom and handicraft of Kerala. She took interest and moved forward to master’s to deep dive into research, analysis and design. She has interned as Design Strategist at ARTISANS’ Art Gallery and Shop, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. Her dissertation project was to develop and design strategy to connect Kannur handloom to the online markets of handloom in India. The project was sponsored by DCH ( Handloom), Textile Ministry of India. The project was awarded - Best Post-Graduation Project, Master of Design, 2023. Atheeva Rejikumar is an interdisciplinary designer with a bachelors in Human-Centered Design from Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology. She is deeply interested in understanding how design theories and paradigms can evolve to shape equitable and just futures. Before joining BITS Design as an academic fellow, Atheeva was a core team member at Kuriouskid Design, where she contributed to the development of a Human-Centered Design toolkit for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to maximize the impact of healthcare innovations. She has also interned as a visual designer at the Museum of Solutions and as a UX researcher at McKinsey & Company. Driven by curiosity, Atheeva is always eager to experiment with new mediums. Her explorations include creating zines with her comic collective ‘Frog Juice Centre', writing climate fiction with her short story ‘Belonging’ published in Nonprofit Quarterly, working on the short film ‘Patchwork Pete,’ which received BIC’s B-LORE grant, and collaborating with the Attakalari Centre for Performing Arts on a multimedia performance using projection mapping. #bits #bitspilani #academicfellows #onboarding
