We’re delighted to celebrate #BiodiversityDay 🌎 with a major step forward in sustainability. Tetra Pak has released their groundbreaking ‘Approach to Nature’ Framework 🌿 This comprehensive strategy, developed collaboratively between Tetra Pak’s internal sustainability experts and our team at Biodiversify, outlines a clear path towards halting, and reversing nature loss while enhancing water security. Tetra Pak’s approach is rooted in measurable quantitative targets and practical actions. The focus is on the drivers of nature loss most relevant to their supply chain which has resulted in a targeted and impactful strategy. We would like to recognise the leadership of Anni Vuohelainen, Julian Fox, Martin Carlsson, and Gilles Tisserand from Tetra Pak 👏 Why is this a big deal? 🤔 Tetra Pak’s ‘Approach to Nature’ goes beyond simply identifying impacts and outlining actions. It dives deep, mapping the intricate connections between various departments and activities, ensuring a unified approach toward their central goal. Moving from Frameworks to Action 📄 While frameworks like TNFD, SBTN, and CSRD provide valuable guidance, they sometimes lack specifics on implementation. Tetra pak’s approach bridges this gap. They’ve meticulously analysed and integrated all available actions into a cohesive strategy, acknowledging the multifaceted nature of biodiversity. This ensures transparency - Tetra Pak’s ambitions and the roadmaps to achieving them are clearly defined. The Takeaway ⭐ Tetra Pak’s ‘Approach to Nature’ exemplifies how environmental frameworks translate into practical action when deeply integrated with a company’s unique context. This journey towards a #NaturePositive future involved both sustainability expertise and strong operational integration. 🤝🍃 “The more that companies can share and learn from each other, the quicker other companies can develop their own strategies and avoid having to start from scratch.” - Eva Zabey By developing a credible strategy #ForNature businesses can reduce their negative impacts and boost business resilience. On #BiodiversityDay, we published the first nature strategies accepted into the the ‘It’s #NowForNature’ campaign - an exciting milestone which we hope will give confidence to others to start their own journey to develop and publish a nature strategy. The Biodiversity Plan (also known as the Global Biodiversity Framework) was adopted by 196 government at #COP15, following a four year consultation and negotiation process. Now is the time for all businesses to be #PartOfThePlan and contribute toward a #NaturePositive future. Find out more: https://bit.ly/44TcmzV

Our Global Sustainability Working Group presented an internal roundtable webinar discussion on the increasingly important topic of Biodiversity with presenters including Josh Markham from Tonkin Taylor New Zealand, Stéphanie Le Bonniec with HPC INTERNATIONAL SAS France, and Katrin Tomova with denkstatt Bulgaria, moderated by Laura Kirkvold, Antea Group USA Biodiversity risk and decline equals a financial and economic risk to businesses as these organizations rely on natural resources to deliver their products and services. Many companies are now required to measure and act on their biodiversity impact with regulations coming and rapidly developing. Not only are these requirements driving action in biodiversity topics, but companies themselves are seeing the importance of leading in this space and getting ahead of customer and stakeholder expectations. Biodiversity - the Unsung Hero of Sustainability in 2024 The clock is ticking, and the natural world is sending us a signal loud and clear. The latest Global Risks Report by the World Economic Forum has placed biodiversity loss in the top five threats humanity will face in this decade. This year, we're witnessing a seismic shift. Biodiversity isn't just a buzzword; it's becoming the heartbeat of sustainability conversations. New regulations take effect (CSRD), companies are stepping up, setting ambitious goals to cherish and protect nature, and soon they will share information about their journey with the world in reports based on ESRS. 2024 will be a landmark year with nature taking the spotlight in key sustainability frameworks. The U.N. Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework is leading the charge, aiming to halt biodiversity loss by 2030 and restore it fully by 2050. Sustainable trade is part of this vision, creating a lifeline for biodiversity and local communities. The Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) is guiding companies with the first set of science-based targets for nature, while the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures' recent TNFD Recommendations from the U.N. Biodiversity Conference is reshaping how capital flows support nature-positive outcomes. Hopefully this year the corporations will eventually put nature at the forefront and we will witness more action and positive change. Let us all nurture our planet back to health, together. #Biodiversity2024 #Sustainability #GlobalRisks #ClimateAction
