🔊 New meeting announcement: 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬: 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 👉 https://lnkd.in/du697xty #Plastics are in almost all objects essential for our everyday life: furniture and toys, packaging of our foods and beverages, and even in the pharmaceuticals and cosmetics we use. Unfortunately, only a small minority of plastic #waste is usefully #recycled . So a major goal for #biotechnology is to produce a wide range of products suitable for #recycling or rapid #biodegradation. The on-line meeting in March will be a joint event with our Partner, AFOB (the Asian Federation of Biotechnology), to explore the range of new #biobased materials that are becoming available, with a special focus on #enzymes required for their synthesis or modification; their applications; and #biodegradability. A fourth session will review the impact of plastics on the environment. Today is #InternationalPlasticBagFreeDay and we all know that #PlasticBags present a big challenge to our environment, since discarded plastic bags can take up to 500 years to disintegrate! Eliminate when possible is the best choice! However, certified #compostable bags help divert food waste from landfills and keeping organic waste out of landfills helps to lower #GreenhouseGas emissions. Luckily, there is a better alternative: We are working with other #biopolymer industry partners using our #polyhydroxyalkanoate technology to develop bags that are compostable. Learn more on our website and then reach out to us to discuss how we can protect the planet together by developing #sustainable PHA-based solutions: https://loom.ly/xxEWi_0 #GreenTech #plasticwaste #SustainableSolutions #PHA

With new biotech materials coming into the market, it pays to know what the various claims they make mean. For example, what’s the difference between bio-based and biodegradable? PolyNatural® is both bio-based and biodegradable (which makes it a great alternative to other polymers). Watch our video for a simple explanation of what each of those terms means.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 - 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 There is quite some "activity" also in standard excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) for various reasons. But I have not seen such a radical innovation as by Nordic Bioproducts Group Ltd to achieve a much more sustainable manufacturing process and at the same time unique product characteristics as presented in their MCC. #excipient #innovation #cellulose #sustainability

Microplastics from packaging are bad news, but many of their worst impacts come not from the plastic itself but the additives (chain extenders, rheology modifiers, antioxidants, UV blockers and more) it is compounded with. This means even “green” biodegradable and biocompatible materials can still have adverse environmental effects if not formulated carefully. Innovia’s Dr Kate Oliver and Alex Massey talk about some of the pitfalls and opportunities in sustainable packaging here: https://lnkd.in/eC4rS7et #FoodHub #Innovation #FoodAndBeverage #SustainablePackaging Innovia Technology
