AFRICA DAY 2024 - May 25! It is Time for Africa! It’s time to explore and do business with Africa! Africa is sometimes nicknamed the "Mother Continent" as it's the oldest inhabited continent on Earth!!!   Africa - a great continent marked by challenges and enormous opportunities – has a young and entrepreneurial population from Cape Town to Cairo, significant natural resources, rapid urbanization, dynamic economies, and a supportive diaspora across the globe.   You might be wondering when Africa Day is in 2024. This fun day is taking place on 25 May. Africa Day is an initiative that marks the forming of the  African Union (AU) in 1963. It is a day to celebrate and acknowledge African unity, culture and diversity across the continent.   Theme for 2024: Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa, the 2024 Africa Day Celebration will focus on women in agriculture.   This year’s AFRICA DAY aims to highlight the opportunities in various regions of this continent, provide practical leads on how to tackle the great opportunities and, most importantly the UBUNTU.    You might be wondering how Africa day can be celebrated. From the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa up to Egypt and the river Nile, Africa is an immense continent full of vibrant cultures, landmarks and structures. Africa Day is a great occasion to put together a geography lesson for colleagues, friends, families and allies of any age so that they can develop a better understanding of the continent and its features.   Africa is home to 54 countries according to the United Nations, all with unique cultures and landscapes. Africa Day is a great opportunity for children to explore the continent and learn about these different countries. Africa is often referred to as the "motherland" due to the belief that it is the birthplace of humanity. This concept stems from the scientific understanding that all modern humans originated in Africa before spreading out to populate the rest of the world. According to the Henley and Partners Openness Index, eight of the top 10 most open countries in the world are African, highlighting the continent’s hospitality. The extraordinary openness displayed by these African nations challenges stereotypes and demonstrates an idea of unity and cooperation that stretches well beyond their boundaries. At least 12 African countries are amongst the top 20 most open countries in the world.

An opportunity worth trying

I grew up with the American dream in mind. I had a similar plan to many people. → Top my class → Get a scholarship abroad → Never come back Can you blame us? Everything we read is about how Africa is doomed. “No hope, go seek opportunities elsewhere.” But seeing more of the continent has given me a new dream. The African dream. Just like the song Afrikan Dream by Vicky Sampson, I believe in our new tomorrow. Don’t get me wrong. It’s okay to go abroad. I have nothing against the “West”. How else would we get the experiences we need to find solutions for our communities? But as Africans, we need to start doing more right here. On our continent. I see a lot more platforms coming up. Whether it be payment platforms, African social media platforms, or the future of events, Whatsnxt Global We are yet to create that African dream. But we are getting closer. And I can’t wait for it.
