The recently released OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2024–2033 predicts a 15% increase in poultry meat consumption globally from 2023 to 2032, with a 4% increase in Europe. So both the world – and Europe – need more poultry meat. The European Poultry Meat sector is united by the principles of keeping production within the European Union for the benefit of European citizens ensuring both food safety and security and animal welfare. These topics are at the core of AVEC - our association. We promote consumer choice and, with this manifesto, declare our commitment to keeping the European poultry sector sustainable and responsible by continuously improving our production in line with the latest scientific developments.

Hi Readers! Today we are taking a closer look at environmental policy changes (or lack thereof) in Europe. The Good: - The EU has drafted a first of a kind rule for companies to pay for microplastic cleanup from pollution they generated into waterways. - Companies would have to cover at least 80% of costs, the rest would be subsidised by governments. - Members of the EU Parliament claim it should not have an effect on products’ prices as the targeted industries include cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Click on the link below to read the article: https://lnkd.in/drnN6Kph The Bad: - The EU has decided to delay the implementation of a policy promoting soil biodiversity under mounting pressure from farmers. - The decision comes across as left-wing’s political weapon to win over some of the voters in rural areas which are typically leaning right. Moment of truth re. 𝐄𝐔 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐥 at 12.00 today: Will the EU restore at least 20% of the EU's land and sea by 2030, and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050? The European Parliament will vote today on the 🅽🅰🆃🆄🆁🅴 🆁🅴🆂🆃🅾🆁🅰🆃🅸🅾🅽 🅻🅰🆆 and the largest political group, the EPP Group in the European Parliament, plans to press the NO button. UPDATE: the European Parliament has voted IN FAVOUR of the #RestoreNature Law! They claim that "We do not want new and more forms of bureaucracy and reporting obligations for farmers. Let farmers farm, ...& to start [ Nature Restoration Law] from scratch and put farmers' interests first," "* at the same time the #EPP is convinced that "our farmers continue to uphold the highest standards of quality and sustainability, they face mounting challenges in an increasingly competitive global market. .... We stand alongside them in facing the challenges of today and building a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector for the future.** Both statements are by Siegfried Muresan MEP, Vice-Chair of the EPP Group in the European Parliament. I am convinced that with complacency and incremental (in)action we will only further mess up climate, biodiversity, agriculture and our food not to mention the livelihood of farmers. Philippa Nuttall ( Financial Times) reported*** (behind paywall) yesterday on her encounters with '𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬, and sustainable agriculture experts calling for a different set of solutions' and Simon Kraemer from the EARA | European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture stating the importance of : “solutions to the farming crisis that include examining trade measures and how to break up the evolving oligopolies of the food retailers, farm input providers and commodity processors”. With the unfolding climate and biodiversity crisis we must put farmers to the center as we shall address agriculture's fast evaporating resilience ( adaptation to already baked in climate change) and transforming the unsustainability of (industrial) #agriculture. In the context of the European Commission’s 2040 climate target proposal and turning the Green Deal from words into action I fully share these concerns and support these suggestions. Regarding the #NatureRestorationLaw's 'emergency brake' & 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 / 𝐬𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐭𝐲 concerns I shared my concerns already ****. My land-use focused reflections regarding the 2040 climate target setting, co-authored with Erica Johnson, were recently published by Euractiv (-> The EU’s 2040 climate targets and strategy must prioritise farmers***** ( all links are below in Comments). #farmtofork #sustainability #parisagreement #agriculture #netzero #climateaction #eugreendeal #trade #commodities #food #climateaction #farmersfirst #farmersprotest

A good approach in agroforestry which is silviculture is where we count on sustainability which could integrate rural communities.

Ever wondered how much effort it takes to produce food? Growing your food is not easy. It takes time, land, work - and water. 💡Did you know that 70% of freshwater in the world goes to agriculture? By throwing away food, you are wasting all the effort it took to plant and grow it. So to understand and appreciate how food is made: •make your own garden and start growing your own food •help out at a community garden •or visit a farm and learn how food is made #FLW #InternationalDayOfAwarenessOfFoodLossAndWaste #29Sep2023 Commission for Environmental Cooperation UN Environment Programme FAO National Zero Waste Council (NZWC)

𝗘𝗨𝗗𝗥: 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 📜🌍 📅 The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) comes into effect on December 30, 2024. While we generally support its objective to protect forests in coffee-growing regions, we want to point out the significant challenges it entails for smallholder farmers. ☕🌿 📉 Many of them will be unable to provide the required detailed geodata by the deadline. This could exclude them from the EU market - not due to deforestation, but due to a lack of necessary data. This exclusion risks reducing their incomes, increasing their vulnerability to poverty, and impeding their shift towards more sustainable agriculture. 📣 Therefore, we call on the European Union to take into account the interests of smallholder farmers: They require suitable data provision systems, an appropriate transition period, and additional financial resources to comply with the new law. 💻🔄💰 Read our full statement here: https://lnkd.in/esfg-nCX #SustainableCoffee #EUDR #Deforestation #Sustainability #CoffeeIndustry

1moYes! However the first conversation you need to have is with the speculators on Wall Street? I know scary? The challenge here is always the price of cotton (today $0.70/pound) which is the main driver and first issue for addressing forced labor, child labor and any human rights violations. It’s time to transform trade for good.
