The new Pharmacy degree at Bangor University has been given the go-ahead, with students set to begin their studies in September 2025. This programme will meet both a local and national need and will ensure that North Wales has a strong base for pharmacy education and research. This will ensure that patients and potential students’ needs are being met for the future. We are delighted with this positive news for North Wales and look forward to working in partnership with Bangor University to support the programme. We now have an opportunity to locally invest in the training of pharmacists in North Wales and to develop the clinically skilled workforce we, and the wider NHS, need for the future.” Full press release link in the comments

October is American Pharmacists Month, and we are highlighting Ole Miss pharmacy alums daily to celebrate all the fantastic work pharmacists do! Pharmacists are crucial members of the healthcare field and use their medical expertise in various career paths. Hi everyone! I am Elizabeth Patton, an alumnus of the School of Pharmacy class of 2018. I am the Director of Pharmacy and consultant Pharmacist at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford, MS. Why would you encourage a student to pursue pharmacy? In the field of pharmacy, the possibilities of practice are so vast. As the scope of practice continues to expand, so will the many opportunities afforded to us. Within the field, you could work in retail, military, public health, ambulatory care, specialty, industry, academia, institutional, long-term care, etc. We play a major role in the healthcare team and are most times the most accessible to the patients. It is so rewarding to serve the community in this capacity. What do you love about being a pharmacist? I love being able to provide optimal care for our patients, and I love the trust that they have in us to provide that care. I also love being able to serve and give back to a population that has done so much for us. What do you love about the Ole Miss School of Pharmacy? Ole Miss SOP provides an environment for you to really explore the many opportunities that are out there. While the curriculum is rigorous, the support and encouragement are always there. The connections with all the pharmacy organizations practicing pharmacists, as well as the access to a wide array of rotation opportunities, really help the students see and experience all that the field of pharmacy has to offer. #PharmacistMonth #ForPharmacy

Strategies for applying to medical schools in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom – Part 1 Earning a place in medical school is a remarkable accomplishment for any student. However, with intense competition, it's crucial to distinguish oneself from others. Frequently, parents enquire about guidance on how to prepare their children for a challenging application. I want to stress that school grades always come first. With perseverance and commitment, a student can attain outstanding grades, irrespective of whether they're pursuing IBDP or A Levels. It is of utmost importance for students who aspire to pursue medical studies in Hong Kong or the United Kingdom to obtain a satisfactory predicted grade (PG) from their school, either at the end of the 1st year or the beginning of the 2nd year of the two-year IBDP or A Levels course. Every medical school lists its minimum entry requirements on their website, so there are no secrets or shortcuts. It's a rigorous process that requires immense effort and hard work. It's worth noting that starting from the 2024 university application cycle, Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing has discontinued BMAT. Students who aspire to attend UK medical schools must focus on preparing for the UCAT to succeed. Parents are advised to keep track of several deadlines, such as registration, booking of the test date, last test date, and submission of test scores in the UCAS application. In part two of this series, I'll provide more insight on "how to make a competitive medical school application." With the right mindset, dedication, and hard work, your child can achieve their goal of becoming a medical professional.

As a Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program Coordinator, identifying and engaging with stakeholders is crucial for the success of the residency programs. The primary stakeholders include the hospital administration, faculty, residents, medical students, and external accrediting bodies. Each group plays a vital role in the program’s functioning and success. Hospital administrators ensure the provision of necessary resources and support for the GME programs. Faculty members are essential for providing education and mentorship to the residents, while the residents and medical students are directly impacted by the program’s quality and effectiveness. October is American Pharmacists Month, and we are highlighting Ole Miss pharmacy alums daily to celebrate all the fantastic work pharmacists do! Pharmacists are crucial members of the healthcare field and use their medical expertise in various career paths. Hi everyone! I am Eric Pham, an alumnus of the School of Pharmacy class of 2023. I am a PGY1 Pharmacy Resident at Duke University Hospital. Why would you encourage a student to pursue pharmacy? With a PharmD foundation, there are so many facets of pharmacy practice that you can pursue. Seek opportunities to be exposed to different areas of pharmacy you are unfamiliar with and shadow them or ask to participate in projects actively. What do you love about being a pharmacist? I love being able to care for a high acuity of patients and work alongside collaborative healthcare team members. We are trusted to manage patients' medications and educate our teams and patients on the safe and optimal use of medications. What do you love about the Ole Miss School of Pharmacy? I could not have done it without my faculty and staff mentors who mentored and encouraged me from my undergraduate through professional school, pharmacy organization events, or APPE clinical rotations. #PharmacistMonth #ForPharmacy
