In the latest episode of "It Actually Happened During My Lifetime," the game Banana, where the entire gameplay loop involves... clicking a banana... to change the number printed on top, was the most played game on Steam last night. Today, it holds the number two spot, boasting more players than Destiny 2, Rust, War Thunder, Warframe, Monster Hunter: World, Sid Meier's Civilization VI, Stardew Valley, Team Fortress 2, and HELLDIVERS 2 combined. If you want to understand where the break has occurred between pouring $400M into the games grist mill and having "financially profitable AAA success" predictably come out the other side, start here with this solo-developed game that involves... clicking on a banana. In the meantime, I'm going to go... eat a banana. P.S. Watch out for the Attack of the Clones. There are a million of them coming or already here.

#80lv so, a whole bunch of things up guys, I’ll try to go point by point here :) * 80.LV PS Alliance is an important first step in a global program we are initiating, and it’s aiming for two things, facilitating more work and opportunities to partners/individual developers and providing developers, clients and enterprise companies (including outside of the gaming industry) with digital content and UGC related opportunities.  * We will announce two-three more waves of partnerships before GDC, with more forces joining the fleet of services and capabilities for about 30-40 studios adding their expertise to the cause. We are also already working with about 200 professional individual digital content creators, we begin to actively match to various platforms, clients and big opportunities in games, automotive, real estate, retail, you name it. Those numbers will be growing as well. Metasites quickly developing in global education, GR initiatives and sectors like real estate and we are doubling down for future scale to come in the second part of 2024.  * From the standpoint of tools, expect development/UGC contests and competitions, micro-contract management platforms, opportunities (sometimes highly customized ones) for indie game developers to port their game to multiple platforms, have access to licensed content and various forms of support in their business.  * We also traditionally help with arranging job search, consultancy, research, provide a light touch level of agency and connections between big business and digital content providers.   * Developers, developers, developers © We are intending to do our best, to provide with 80.lv an access to the platform, that will help every developer in the world to do things that they like, be able to express creatively and be properly rewarded for their efforts. There is a journey to be done here, but everyone starts with the first step, that's done, and let us begin :) 

Today, one of the most anticipated games of this year, #BaldursGate3 from Larian Studios, has its premiere on PC. Baldur's Gate was the first RPG game I ever played (that must have been over 20 years ago). Nowadays, games are productions with budgets reaching hundreds of millions, matching the grandeur of major cinematic hits. There's also a growing opinion that game stories are much more intriguing than those in movies and certainly allow for deeper immersion. Some interesting facts about Baldur's Gate 3: 💻 6 years of production 📚 Rules based on 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons 🧝♀️ Dialogues contain 2,000,000 words 🧙♂️ 174 hours of cinematic cutscenes (including dialogues) 👸🏻 17,000 possible game endings! 🎯 75-100 hours needed to complete the game Other games that have been released this year and are worth checking out, in my opinion: ✓ Hogwarts Legacy ✓ Diablo 4 (a bit disappointed me). ✓ Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (premiering on 26th September 2023). #gamedev #worklifebalance

Traveling?: https://ift.tt/CdwJA38 Exciting News from Apex Legends Studio Respawn: CEO Andrew Wilson recently shared some tantalizing details about the exciting projects in the works at Respawn Entertainment. During the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Technology Conference, Wilson praised the studio's ongoing success with Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi series, and called EA's acquisition of Respawn one of the most incredible in the industry. While Wilson didn't share specific details, it's been confirmed that Respawn is working on an untitled Star Wars first-person shooter, a strategy game in collaboration with Bit Reactor, and potentially a third Jedi game. Additionally, Respawn has a top-secret project in the works, led by Titanfall director Steve Fukuda. The team is currently in the early stages of prototyping something brand new for the studio. 900 seconds with Rush Royale Rush Royale from MY.GAMES is the #1 Tower Defense game on the mobile market and it is almost impossible to avoid the presence of such juggernaut. Tower Defense (TD) games remind me of my Warcraft3 teenage years playing all those custom TD maps (Element TD anyone?). Nostalgia kicked in, so I had to download it, set the timer and try it out. The original question was: Can you learn anything insightful by just playing 15 minutes? Always. So the new question is: What can you learn in just 15 minutes?
