Eastern Pacific Shipping Pte. Ltd. (EPS) is embarking on a groundbreaking journey towards greener seas with its maiden venture into wind-assisted propulsion technology. In a landmark move, EPS has inked a deal with bound4blue to integrate three 22-meter eSAILs® onto the Pacific Sentinel, a 183-meter, 50,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) oil and chemical tanker. This innovative ‘suction sail’ system, designed to harness wind power by drawing air across aerodynamic surfaces, is anticipated to slash the vessel’s overall energy consumption by approximately 10%, contingent upon its routing. The momentum behind bound4blue’s fully autonomous eSAIL® technology has been steadily building within the industry. This recent collaboration underscores the versatility of the system, catering to both newbuilds and retrofit projects across diverse vessel types, regardless of size or age. #bunkering #energy #shipping #marine #maritime #petroleum #shipowners #decarbonization #technology #digitalization #energytransition #sustainable #oilandgas #cleanenergy #carboncapture #ports #greenenergy #greenshipping #netcarbonzero #society #sustainability #bunkermarket #europe #usa #uk #canada #uae #netherlands #denmark #norway #sweden #singapore #bound4blue #eps #easternpacificshipping #abs #americanbureauofshipping #windpropulsion #esail https://lnkd.in/d8JV3Qdp

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and its subsidiary MOL Drybulk Ltd. have set their sights on harnessing wind power to drive their vessels into a greener future. The companies have unveiled plans to equip seven of their new bulk carriers and multi-purpose vessels with wind propulsion systems, including the innovative Wind Challenger technology. This move follows successful trials on the vessel Shofu Maru, where the Wind Challenger sail demonstrated a remarkable reduction in daily fuel consumption of up to 17%. However, it’s worth noting that the actual fuel savings and greenhouse gas reduction can vary based on factors such as the vessel type and shipping route. #bunkering #energy #shipping #marine #maritime #petroleum #shipowners #decarbonization #digitalization #energytransition #oilandgas #cleanenergy #carboncapture #ports #greenenergy #greenshipping #netzero #sustainability #bunkermarket #europe #usa #uk #canada #uae #netherlands #denmark #norway #sweden #finland #singapore #japan #mol #molgroup #mitsui #windpropulsion #windchallenger #moldrybulk #drybulk #shofumaru https://lnkd.in/dfvxXseC

Aasen Shipping awards propulsion contract for methanol-ready trio Norway’s Aasen Shipping has ordered three hybrid-powered methanol-ready cargo ships as the trend towards methanol use continues Technology group Wärtsilä will supply an integrated hybrid propulsion solution for three new self-discharging cargo vessels being built at the Royal Bodewes shipyard in the Netherlands for Norwegian shipowner Aasen Shipping. As part of the solution, the ships will feature the latest addition to Wärtsilä’s engine portfolio, the Wärtsilä 25, which was launched in September 2022. The engines and vessels are prepared for operation on sustainable fuels in the future, according to Wärtsilä, which booked the order in September 2023. Wärtsilä delivered a similar hybrid propulsion solution to two earlier Aasen Shipping vessels, Aasfoss and Aasfjell. The three 9,500-dwt vessels will each operate with one six-cylinder Wärtsilä 25 main engine fitted with a Wärtsilä NOx reduction system, a Wärtsilä gearbox and controllable pitch propeller with shaft line, a Wärtsilä Pro-Touch bridge control system, the hybrid system with DC hub and 620-kWh battery capacity, the control system, as well as the battery, power and energy management systems. The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery to Royal Bodewes in December 2025 and in 2026. Royal Bodewes is currently building at three yards simultaneously in the north of the Netherlands. The highly efficient hybrid-powered, methanol-ready self-dischargers are among the orders. https://bit.ly/3uXjUns #methanol #sustainable #efuel #futurefuel #marine #maritime eFuels #energytransition #alternativefuel

Cruise ship operators increasingly consider Methanol as a sustainable low-emission fuel solution as more significant, retrofit-capable storage options become available. A space-efficient fuel tank design known as Methanol Superstorage is putting new energy into key cruise ship retrofits to replace conventional fuels, reports Cruise Ship Industry. The sector’s leading players have quickly responded to the Approval in Principle granted by @Lloyd’s Register for the new approach to storage tank construction, developed by SRC Group which claims a volume increase of 85% over conventional solutions. Among the technology’s attractions is its suitability for new buildings and retrofits. Installation is possible with only minimal impact on the general arrangement of the vessel, SPS claims. Read the full article: https://bit.ly/4ajFbHF Some leading names in cruise shipping, including MSC Group, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, and Royal Caribbean Group, are Methanol Institute members. MAN AUXILIARIES FOR HYDROGEN-FUELLED FEEDER SHIPS: Cochin Shipyard (CSL), the largest shipbuilding and maintenance facility in India, has ordered four MAN 12V175D-MEV variable-speed GenSets in connection with the building of two short-sea feeder container ships for global logistics company Samskip Group, headquartered in Rotterdam. Known as the SeaShuttle project, the vessels will be among the first of their kind globally to be powered by individual 3.2 MW hydrogen fuel-cell-based energy systems. The MAN GenSets will act as a back-up, forming a diesel-electric propulsion plant with a permanent magnet generator. Are Gråthen, CEO Samskip Norway, said: “Samskip is very proud to take the lead role in pioneering the SeaShuttle initiative as part of its ‘making green logistics easy’ strategy. [This] provides a platform to make emissions-free container shipping a reality. […] In line with commitments given at COP26 Clydebank Declaration, SeaShuttle would create what amounted to one of Europe’s first zero-emission ‘green corridors’.” The 135m 500 TEU ships are due for delivery in Q3 and Q4 of 2025, respectively, and will operate between Oslo Fjord and Rotterdam, a distance of about 700 naut mile. They will furthermore be capable of being remotely controlled and come autonomous-ready. Florian Keiler, Head of High Speed, MAN Energy Solutions, said: “This is a groundbreaking project, which sets new standards for environmentally friendly shipping. In that vein, our engines are capable of running on bio-fuels like HVO and B100 and showcase our green credentials in pursuing decarbonisation. We congratulate Samskip and CSL on this exciting venture and look forward to working closely with them.” The 175D is a variable-speed GenSet, designed for high efficiency at low loads, inherent fuel efficiency and low emissions. As the engine believed to offer the lowest total cost of ownership in the market, the high-speed engines will each come integrated with compact, flexible closed-loop MAN SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems. Furthermore, MAN Energy Solutions says that the engines have the lowest lube-oil consumption on the market with long oil-change intervals and best-in-class times-between-overhauls (TBOs).
