BenchSci's 2023 Impact Report is now available. This year’s impact report showcases our progress in building a thriving, inclusive workplace and a more sustainable future. Highlights include: ✔ We maintained gender parity company-wide (49%) while identifying an opportunity to increase the representation of women in leadership roles. ✔ We invested in partnerships with organizations like The Knowledge Society and the Black Professionals in Tech Network. ✔ We launched two new ERGs (QueerSci and Black@BenchSci) and a Chapter Program to connect BenchSciers. ✔ We are enhancing Total Rewards and conducted a compensation fairness analysis. ✔ We donated to local organizations through BenchSci Gives Back. ✔ We are implementing an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework with the support of Generation Investment Management. I have had the honor of speaking at the Mount Saint Mary's University The Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California event with Geena Davis and many other iconic women creating an impact. The work that MSMU does in creating impact for women's inclusion is truly inspiring. This year's theme: The Cost of Being A Woman: Solutions for Economic Equity examined the barriers to financial well-being and highlighted the opportunities for lasting chance to create a more equitable and vibrant future for all. As I navigate the very real and unique challenges I have faced as a woman of color, a tech and non-profit founder, and a small business owner, I feel like these conversations are vital to what lies ahead for women like me to be fully funded and fully supported. It is heartbreaking at times to stand deep inside the wage and wealth gap and to give up so much of the comforts of a sustainable livelihood simply because I dare to dream and build as a woman. As I reference later in this video: "Just keep going!" I have to remind myself of that every. single. day. #INSPIREINCLUSION It is my ethos. It is my purpose. It is my mission. Not just during #WHM in March, but 365 - 366 days a year. As we wrap up a month of celebrating women think about the women who are bootstrapping, scraping by, the founders and dreamers who keep going, who may be silently unable to pay their rent or bills, who are underfunded, underrepresented, undersupported, unseen, and who may not know what else to do or where to go, the barriers are too much. If you are creating a 'Women in ____' accelerator program, but only support a tiny percentage of women-led companies in your core programs… If you are celebrating your 'Director of ____' today, but have no women as part of your C-suite or on your board… If you produce a conference with a special 'Women in ____' panel, but all your plenary sessions are dominated by men… If your 'women-entrepreneur' seed fund is miniscule compared to your overall investment… If you write articles with titles like 'Amazing Female Leaders in ____' but fail to recognize same when you write about the industry… If you recognize the incredible accomplishments of women in every field, every industry... Thank you. But take the next step. If your programs, teams, boards, conferences, funding, and articles don’t reflect the fact that we make up half of the population, you have the power to change that. As we are still celebrating women month,am reflecting on the work i proudly do in my community-Investing in women is crucial for economic development and social progress. When women are empowered, they invest in their families and communities, leading to improved health, education, and overall well-being. Training women in nutritious products has further enhance their ability to contribute positively to their families' health and nutrition, leading to healthier communities and potentially breaking the cycle of poverty and malnutrition. Additionally, by supporting women entrepreneurs in this field, it has lead to innovations in food production and distribution, benefiting society as a whole.
