"Cooperation will be fundamental to realise the green transition of the transport sector" On 7 May, Nordic Energy Research is organising the Nordic Green Transport Forum in Gothenburg, Sweden. The forum is open to the public and will explore the added value of cooperation across the Nordic countries and sectors for pathways and innovative solutions to achieve sustainable transportation on land, at sea, and in the air. With only one month left until the forum, we asked one of the keynote speakers, Tommaso Selleri, Expert in Climate Change, Energy, and Transport at the European Environment Agency, to elaborate on his session on Green Transport in the EU and Digitalisation. From an EU perspective, how can Nordic cooperation on green transportation contribute to the EU's climate objectives? "The climate problem we must solve is intrinsically transboundary and calls for cooperation at all possible levels. In this context, the transport sector must still deliver on GHG emission reduction to make it possible to reach our shared EU climate objectives. Several challenges lie ahead and all of them will require coordination, shared and common solutions, and integration of different mobility systems. Cooperation on these aspects will be fundamental to realise the green transition of the sector," says Tommaso. Improved access to concessional loans can aid in the fight against climate change by helping in financing renewable energy projects, investing in climate resilience, encouraging forest conservation and reforestation, promoting sustainable transportation, and facilitating technology and capacity building. Developing countries should be granted access to these loans to enable them to effectively combat the negative impacts of climate change by accelerating their transition to low-carbon emissions and a climate-resilient future. #ClimateAction
