What do we think Saka's brand-new product will be? The I'm Just Bait Instagram page posted this billboard which as far as I can see is the only preview we've had so far! So tomorrow it will be launched but the question is, what will it be? My prediction; A Nigerian-inspired hot sauce. Firstly the obvious chilli on the branding which, no doubt, has been taken from his nickname 'little chilli' given by his teammates. Perhaps this is going to be the name?! Secondly, the condiment space has been growing rapidly with Kraft Heinz developing a ton of new flavours and brands with celebrities like Tingly Ted with Ed Sheeran along with start-ups crafting unique flavours and combinations for the condiment cupboard. What do you think? What's your prediction?

Kraft Heinz Cheesy Beanz is a Missed Opportunity. Heinz Beanz and Cathedral City Cheese have forgotten how sacred a ritual can be. Few food traditions match the classic, comforting, and widely loved combo of cheese and beans, with 47% of UK consumers ranking it as a top food pairing (Heinz research). This made waves in the UK at launch, showcasing the social power of this partnership. However, this could have gone even bigger by enhancing the ritual, not just prioritising convenience. Just imagine delving deeper into the joy, indulgence, and comfort of putting delicious cheese on hot beans (or the other way around) and watching them melt together into a mouth-watering symphony of flavours. This chance to put more joy into the campaign highlights the importance of our Future Code, Zenjoyment and the opportunity for brands to play in 'The comfort zone', finding new ways to enhance the indulgence in everyday rituals. Don't get too comfortable in 'the comfort zone'; it has SO much brand innovation potential. Heritage and challenger brands can explore its outer edges to help them reach new audiences, move the brand into new spaces like premium, or even create unique global cultural moments. Imagine if Heinz and Cathedral City delved deeper into this rich sauce of innovation... Ever heard of "Mother Beverage?" Hint: it was on Shark Tank ABC, and is widely known as something else now...... That's right, it's poppi! Marketing Geniuses. In 2018 they made an appearance on Shark Tank hoping to strike big. Turns out, they made a deal with the right Shark. Rohan Oza, founder of CAVU Consumer Partners, responsible for the success of Vitamin Water, Bai, and Vita Coco, partnered with the company for a 25% stake. However, "Mother Beverage" needed a rebrand. Something that could be trademarked. That's where "Poppi" came to life and the success shot out of a cannon exponentially. Being in only 200 stores previous to the rebrand in 2020, they now are in over 20,000 big name chains such as Target, Whole Foods, Publix, and Walmart. But wait it gets better... Now they are in Wholesale! Not to mention the success it's gaining on TikTok with influencers and celebrities. And I have to say, some of those flavors are wildly tasty - I'd be lying if I said I don't stock up when I go to Costco. Taking that old soda you find full of sugar and wrecking your gut, this prebiotic apple cider vinegar based, low sugar soda has taken over the hearts of millions. And to think, it started by a husband and a wife Stephen Ellsworth & Allison Ellsworth in Texas, taking their farmers market dream to a nationwide favorite. The future of soda is here they say, and oh boy is it coming to fruition. Now that's marketing. 📌 By the way, what's your favorite flavor? Recently, I came across this sweet example in #Swiss supermarkets of Nutella using its packaging to: 📌 Tell a story 📌 Build an emotional connection with its consumers 📌 Stand out on shelves through its clutter breaking colours 📌 Personalize and customize its consumer persona Of course, this isn't the first instance of a consumer packaged good using packaging for its #marketing. Brands like Coca Cola and KitKat have deployed this tactic quite well across geographies. Have you seen Nutella taking a similar approach in your market too?

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a Roundtable lunch with Kettle Foods UK's Brand Manager Lily Cook, hosted by Rachel Murray. This was a really interesting presentation that Lily shared with us. From the founding story to the fairly recent rebrand and a massively successful recent social media campaign. What was most impressive to me was how they have stuck to their values. 'What's on the pack is in the pack'. 🌶 I hadn't realised that they are pure with their ingredients, they are all from real foods, and even the flavouring is from the actual food of the flavour. 👨🍳 They have a dedicated innovation chef who is always working on their flavour combinations, I had no idea there were so many!! 🥔 The potatoes are always from the UK, but not only in the UK but within the region of their factory in Norwich. 💚 And I love that they have NO NASTIES! 🚨 update: Today Matt Wheeler posted about brands being transparent around sustainability and he added some brand loyalty stats - I'm adding them here because its really very relevant to what I'm sharing and to what Kettle are living by: - 89% of shoppers stay loyal to brands that share their values. - 43% of customers spend more on brands they are loyal to. 💚 Do you find yourself drawn to brands that demonstrate shared values? #fmcgproducts #fmcgmarketing #brandmanager

I can’t help but feel that the modern food and beverage CPG branding has regressed products to uniformity and drives many brands into oblivion 💗 💚 💛 💜 💖 💔 🖤 💝 🧡 💟 ❤️ Despite colorful branded packages, these products have become so predictable and homogenized that they’ve reverted to mere commodities 🍫 🥫 🍾 It is crucial to move beyond conventional strategies and commonplace advice to stand out and last in the crowded marketplace 🔀 🔁 🔂 🔄 ↩ ↪ 🔃 My observations inspired me to write this article and of course, have fun with AI to illustrate my point (with some adjustments in Photoshop).
