A few of the same things keep coming up when we ask new team members why they joined Nest. Something I love to see is leaders thinking creatively about their talented teams when they spot a gap in capabilities. In that situation, hiring a new person can feel like the intuitive next step. But when we look around, it’s likely the skills we need are closer than we think. Companies spend billions on developing new products but don't apply that same thinking when hiring new talent. If you want an 'entry-level' employee, don't look for people with years of experience and overlook the recent grad ready to step into that role. If you need an entry-level 'manager' don't look for people with years of management experience and overlook the Sr. level of individual ready to step into that role.
