The Sepulveda Transit Corridor project in Los Angeles has successfully completed the PDA Phase 3 design, meeting all deliverables and bringing us closer to a transit solution for Angelenos. This monumental project is set to offer faster, greener travel options for the LA community.   We're particularly excited about the UCLA stop, which is expected to become the biggest hub of ridership, especially near the campus's medical center. Hydropower is one the oldest and most reliable sources of renewable energy, and Pumped Storage Hydro (PSH) is becoming an increasingly important solution to supporting the energy transition and maintaining grid resilience.    PSH is enabling access to clean, renewable, and independent energy by increasing grid stability and power availability as variable renewables, such as solar and wind, take up a greater percentage of global grids. ➡️ Here's how it works: By taking advantage of excess grid electricity outside of peak demand, water is moved from a source of lower elevation to a higher elevation. This just in: Our partners at Sempra Infrastructure have awarded our #Bechtel team the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Port Arthur, Texas!👏🎉   "We are excited for the opportunity to advance our partnership with Sempra Infrastructure on the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project, a vital project that will play a crucial role in meeting the world's increasing need for cleaner and more reliable energy," said Paul Marsden, President of Bechtel Energy. "This partnership positions Bechtel and Sempra Infrastructure to not only deliver a transformative energy infrastructure project but also bring additional significant economic growth and development opportunities to the local community."   This award builds on our ongoing partnership with Sempra Infrastructure. Together, we are also delivering the Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 project that consists of trains 1 and 2, as well as two LNG storage tanks and associated facilities, which is well underway with expected commercial operation dates for train 1 and train 2 in 2027 and 2028, respectively. And once operating at full capacity, Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 will nearly double the Port Arthur plant's total LNG production capacity to up to 26 million metric tons per annum!   #Bechtel has designed and built about 30% of the world’s LNG capacity. 🎉Congratulations to Plant Vogtle and our partners at Georgia Power Company and Southern Nuclear for being named POWER magazine's Plant of the Year!🎉 Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 made history this year by bringing clean, carbon-free, nuclear power to the grid—today, helping power 500,000 homes and businesses across Georgia. #Bechtel, joining the project in 2017, completed the construction of both units, representing the first successful start-to-finish construction of a new nuclear plant in the U.S. in over 30 years. #Bechtel chairman and CEO Brendan Bechtel shared insights on the future of nuclear power: "Plant Vogtle is already moving us in the right direction. To wrap up #NationalSafetyMonth this June, we're reflecting on our new partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) we launched earlier this year to address a critical safety issue—protecting our colleagues' mental health. Today, the U.S. construction industry faces a tragic reality—having one of the highest suicide rates of any occupation. In fact, the number of lives lost to suicide in the industry is nearly 5x higher than the number of lives lost in jobsite safety incidents. These are safety statistics that together, we must change. Our multiyear partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is an effort to do just that. To start, our goal is to reach more than 500,000 U.S. construction workers over the next five years by developing industry-specific suicide prevention programs and resources. 📣 ICYMI: Earlier this month, members of #Bechtel's Mining and Metals team travelled to Antofagasta, Chile, to attend #Exponor2024, one of Latin America's most important conferences for the mining industry.   Our #Bechtel colleagues presented at the “Talento Mujer” stage (which translates to "female talent" in English), which was dedicated to highlighting the important role women play in the mining sector and promoting gender equality across the industry... "It was an excellent experience to have this instance where women can participate and present on topics like mental health care, with plans that can improve performance, safety results, and the well-being of people in the context of construction in mining," said Pamela Carrasco Vallejos, Health, Safety and Environment specialist at Bechtel, who together with her #Bechtel colleague Sebastian Navea Weishaupt, led a talk on mental health, a crucial topic in challenging work environments like mining.   At Bechtel, diversity and inclusion are fundamental pillars of our culture. Earlier this week, our #Bechtel team at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico wrapped up construction on its new, state-of-the-art Safety Significant Confinement Ventilation (SSCVS) facility, which is key in supporting WIPP's operational infrastructure. Congratulations to our team and partners at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)! 👏 How it works: Once fully online, the SSCVS will increase the quality of airflow to the underground repository at WIPP, as well as allow air to safely exit, further enabling the plant to deliver on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s national security and environmental cleanup missions. Celebrating 25 years of operations this year, WIPP is a first-of-a-kind facility designed to safely and permanently dispose of radioactive transuranic defense waste. It's also the United States' only deep geological repository. #Bechtel played a significant role in WIPP's initial design and development back in the 1970s, and today, we’re honored to help carry out this important mission.
