Dylan Keil, CEO of Bearing AI and recent panelist at the KBTG Techtopia conference in Bangkok, is at the forefront of integrating AI within the maritime shipping industry. There is considerable upside to improving efficiencies within such traditional industries, particularly regarding factors that get a ship safely from point A to point B using the minimum amount of fuel. But traditional industries often do not want dramatic change. While equipping ships with a comprehensive system of sensors would be ideal in generating the data needed to make better predictions and decisions, shipping companies will balk at the installation and maintenance costs. Instead, Keil worked with the data that shipping companies already have, within the massive number of emails that make up the heart of internal shipping communications. “This email data has a lot of very valuable and useful information that we can use for training our models. That allows us to build a data pipeline and train our models without requiring them to do a lot of work.” Thus, one of the major insights to AI transformation is driving the change organizations are ready for. “Instead of forcing your customer to adapt what they’re doing to meet you, even if that technically might be the ideal solution, its much better to meet the customers where they are because especially in these conservative industries, you’re going to have a really hard time changing the way they do business if they’ve been doing that for 30,40, 50 years,” he said. #AI #KBTGTechtopia #BearingAI
